Cameron takes 3-1 victory over Eastern New Mexico

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies outlasted the Eastern New Mexico Zias, 3-1 at the Aggie Gym Saturday afternoon. The Lone Star Conference victory over the Zias moves CU to 10-8 overall and 3-6 in conference, and drops ENMU to 8-10 overall while also going 3-6 in the LSC.

The Zias came out firing in set one, building a 14-6 lead early, but the Aggies responded with eight straight points to tie the match at 14-14. After a couple of back and forth points, Cameron put together a four point stretch to give them a 19-16 lead.  Eastern New Mexico came firing back and illustrated a 9-5 run to close out set one, 25-23 and take the 1-0 lead in the match.

Set two was similar to the first, as ENMU took the early lead 4-0, but Cameron battled back to tie it at six points apiece and then them taking the lead off a Zia error. After trading points and tying the game at 10-10, the Aggies put together a 7-3 run that gave them a 17-13 lead, but that lead would not be safe, as Eastern New Mexico came back with a run of their own and took the lead 22-21. Cameron would then finish the set on a 4-1 run and tie the match with the 25-23 set win.

In set three, the teams battled back and forth until a 10-10 tie, and from there the Aggies took the lead on a kill by Kat Evans and would not give it back, winning set three 25-19 and scoring the final point off a Rebecca Green kill.

Cameron started out slow in set four, with ENMU taking an early 11-6 lead, but the Aggies came back and used a seven point rally to take a 19-15 lead late. The Zias didn't go down quietly, and they came back to tie the game at 21 all. A Kill by Paige Holt and three ENMU errors closed out the set 25-21 and gave CU the 3-1 victory.

Green led the Aggies with 16 kills, and hit .385 on 39 attacks with only one error for the match. She also helped at the net recording three of CU's blocks. Kendra Adams had another solid game, chipping in 13 kills and hitting .258. Ingrid Boatman recorded a double-double with 34 assists and 11 digs, as did Kayla Hebert who had 12 assists and 16 digs. On the defensive side, Cristina Viera led the team with 18 digs, while Lindsey McCauley chipped in 15, and Kat Evans added 12 to go along with nine kills in the match.

The Aggies had the better attack percentage in the match with a .212 compared to Eastern New Mexico's .187, and the team's matched each other at the net with six team blocks a piece.

Cameron will begin a two match road trip on Friday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Angelo State, and then will head to Tarleton State for a match the next day.
