PORTALES, N.M. – Cameron's road woes continued as they would fall at Eastern New Mexico 3-1 on Tuesday night. With the loss the Aggies fall below .500 (10-11) and drop to 3-9 in Lone Star Conference play. The win on Tuesday night for the Zias gives them sole position of sixth place in the LSC standings (4-8) and they are now 10-12 overall.
The Aggies have dropped their last three in a row, all on the road, and will fall to seventh in the LSC. CU is one game back of ENMU and a game ahead of Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce who are both tied for eighth place in the league standings.
In the opening set, both teams traded the lead until ENMU broke an 11-11 tie with a 4-1 run that swung the momentum their way while holding the Aggies to a .118 hitting percentage. The Zias on their end of the court hit .342, with 18 kills for the 25-20 win.
The second set played out similarly with both teams getting locked up seven different times before Cameron rattled off three straight kills to even the match with a 25-22 win. Both teams were locked in a hitting battle with the Aggies going .297 during the set, while ENMU hit .286.
ENMU controlled the third set from start to finish with Cameron hitting .000 and only logging in 14 points while the Zias rolled through with 11 kills and five team blocks.
In the fourth set, Cameron looked to keep pace with the Zias but a 12-2 run after a tie at nine each proved to be too much for the Ags to recover from by falling 25-16.
Cristina Viera led the Aggies with eight kills,
Kat Evans added seven, and
Rebecca Green had six. Viera also paced CU with 13 digs and
Lindsey McCauley adding 12.
The Zias had three with over ten kills, Lauren Frye led both squads with 15, while Agatha Gibbons had 11, and BreeAnna Lucero added 10. ENMU hit .279 against CU with 15 total blocks while the Aggies countered with a .109 hitting percentage and four total blocks.
The Aggies will return home to host Texas Woman's on Friday and Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday.
