LAWTON – Cameron's return home after a three week absence was a welcome site for the Aggies after they swept Texas A&M-Kingsville in straight sets on Friday night. The win moved CU to .500 overall with a 7-7 record and a 2-5 Lone Star Conference mark, while the Javelinas fall to 10-5 on the season and 3-4 in the LSC.
The first set was a back and forth match with the score being tied 13 times and six lead changes before the Aggies closed out the set with a four point rally, powered by kills from
Rebecca Green and
Kat Evans and two service aces by
Cristina Viera, that secured the 25-21 set win.
In set two, the Javelinas got ahead big at least four points twice, before a kill from
Kendra Adams tied the score at 14-14 and led to a TAMUK timeout. From there, CU battled and held on to the lead thanks to a three point rally, and closed out set two 25-20.
Cameron fell behind early again in set three, but they scored 10 unanswered points to give CU a big league at 17-10. Cameron gave up only six more points, and got a 25-16 set three win.
Evans led the charge for the Aggies, recording a 12 kill-10 dig double-double, and hitting .346 with only three errors. Â Â Both Green and Viera chipped in 10 kills apiece, while Viera also added 11 digs for a double-double of her own. Â
Ingrid Boatman led CU with 26 assists, while
Kayla Hebert added 12 assists, and
Lindsey McCauley led the team with 16 digs of her own.
Cameron will return to the Aggie Gym Saturday evening, with a 6 p.m. match against Arkansas-Monticello.
Match Notes:This is the first time a Cameron team has swept a conference opponent at home since Oct. 25, 2011 against Eastern New Mexico.
This win matched CU's win total from last season.
Kat Evans has six double-doubles on the season and has recorded four straight double digit kill games.Â
