LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggies recorded their third straight win with a 3-1 victory over Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday night. Cameron is now one game over .500 at 8-7, while the Cotton Blossoms fall to 10-8 this season.
After a slow start in set one, CU powered back with a couple of long rallies including rattling off 10 straight points that would give them a big lead. A .353 hitting percentage with 16 kills and only four errors earned them the 25-13 set one win.
In set two, Cameron struggled on offense, with only nine kills compared to nine errors, and the Cotton Blossoms capitalized on that, hitting .294 in the set. They used a six point rally to end the set, 25-17 and tied up the match.
The Aggies started out strong in set three, pulling out to an 11-2 lead early. After a couple of UAM points and a couple of CU rallies, Cameron found themselves up 17-6. However, the Cotton Blossoms would come back with a couple of rallies of their own, including four straight points at match point, but a kill from CU's
Kat Evans closed out the set 25-22.
Set four was a back and forth battle with 11 ties and six lead changes. Arkansas-Monticello had a 20-17 lead late, but the Aggies surged back and scored seven straight points, three coming from kills from
Kendra Adams. After UAM scored two points, to make it 24-22 in favor of Cameron, an error by the Cotton Blossoms gave the Aggies there final point and another 25-22 win to end the match.
Cameron had four players with over 10 kills, as
Rebecca Green led the team with 13, and had an errorless night, hitting .565. Both Evans and Adams added 12 kills each, with Adams only committing two errors for a .417 percentage.
Cristina Viera chipped in 10 kills to the offensive attack and also recorded 14 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Ingrid Boatman led the team with 31 assists, while
Kayla Hebert added 14 assists and 16 digs. Additionally,
Lindsey McCauley and
Taylor Tepfer both had double digit dig nights with 14 and 11 digs respectively.
Arkansas-Monticello was led by Sydni Schulz, who had 16 kills and 11 digs, and Kaila Kikugawa, who had 25 assists and 11 digs of her own. UAM won the battle at the net, recording 11 total blocks to CU's six, with eight of them coming from Tasha Evans, who also added 10 kills to the offensive attack.
For their next match, the Aggies will make a trip to Ada to face East Central on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
Match Notes:This is the first time the Aggies have won three matches in a row since the beginning of the 2012 season.
Kayla Hebert recorded her team leading ninth double-double of the season, and has now had over 10 assists in each of Cameron's matches this season.
