Men's Basketball Preview: St. Gregory's and USAO

LAWTON -- The Cameron men's basketball program will open their 2014-15 season with a pair of home contests against St. Gregory's on Friday and the University of Science and Arts (Okla.) on Saturday at the Aggie Gym.  Cameron who enters their second full season under head coach Nate Gamet will be tested early on Friday against a St. Gregory's team who was ranked sixth nationally in the preseason NAIA poll.  Tipoff for both non-conference contests will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Aggie Gym.

A quick look at the Cavaliers: This will be first time Jan. 3, 2000 that St. Gregory's has faced the Aggies and in CU's four-year era they are 0-3 when facing the Cavaliers; the last time CU has beating a SGU team was during the 1967 season.  The Cavs are 3-1 this season with their loss coming against Benedictine (Kan.), who was ranked fourth nationally in the NAIA ranks.  In their four contests this season, they have averaged 83.3 ppg but opposing teams have out-rebounded SGU by a +3 margin, and shoot the ball better at a .456 clip compared to the Cavs'.420 field goal percentage.  From the arc, they are averaging nearly nine per contest with a 35.7 success rate. The majority of SGU's offense is ran through Marty Wilkerson who taking the nearly 35% of the programs total shots this season and has averaged 26 ppg in SGU's four games.

A quick look at the Drovers: Cameron meeting with nearby USAO will the first in three seasons, with the Drovers taking the last two contests, and this will be the 62nd meeting that started with a 113-84 Aggie win on Nov. 27, 1973 under CU Hall of Fame Coach Red Miller.  Cameron leads the overall series 41-20 over the Drovers who are 1-2 this season. USAO is leading rebounding battle by a slim .6 margin, while getting outscored 67 to 73.7, and out-shot from the field 46.1% to the Drovers' 46.1%.  On the offensive side, USAO splits the ball up between Ed' Lexus Collier, David Tucker, and Jerry Coriolan who have averaged around 13 points; both Tucker and Coriolan are hitting over 50% of their shots from the field and 75% of the teams shots from the arc.

Two returners: Tany Mayberrry and Desmond Henry are CU's lone players who saw time on the court during the 2013-14 season.  Mayberry started in 12 and played in all of the Aggies' 26 contests last season, averaging 5.6 ppg, and 4.2 rpg; he also lead the CU squad in field goal percentage with 56.2% shots made.  Henry is a fifth-year senior of the Aggies and appeared in 25 games, while averaging eight points, and 14.4 minutes.  KeDorian Sullivan and James Cross also are carryovers from last season but were red-shirted.  Cameron will open the season with eight players are new to the program. 

On the Horizon:  Cameron faces their first road test of the season as they head to Alva, Okla. for a game against Northwestern Okla. State on Nov. 22
