FORT SMITH – Cold second half shooting would lead the Aggie women's basketball team to a 78-51 loss in their season opener at Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday afternoon. Â
Jade Herl paced the Aggies offense with 11 points, while
Brandi Leal and
Charron Montgomery added nine each.Â

Cameron (0-1) matched the Lions (1-0) point-for-point early and closed out the first half trailing by only a pair to UAFS (33-31). The Aggies shot 31.5 percent at the midway marker with 12-38 shooting from the field; half of those shots came from beyond the arc.

However, the lid on the bucket closed shut on the Ags and they went scoreless from the field in the final nine minutes of the contest. Fort Smith would open up a 22 point lead with a pair of minutes remaining while CU could only counter with points from the charity stripe. Cameron would shoot 3-31 from the field and 1-11 from the arc, while UAFS shot 46.5 percent from the field, and put up 45 points in the second half alone.

Cameron shot 21.7 percent from the field making 15 of their 69 shots in the afternoon contest; UA-Fort Smith hit 38.1 percent, and made 32 of 84 on their side of the court. The Lions led the battle of the boards with 65 compared to CU's 56.

DJ Vallier and
Jazzmine Robinson both led CU with 11 rebounds each.

The Lions caused 19 turnovers for the Aggies with seven blocks coming from Angi Ramey who had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
