Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cameron takes down USAO, 97-81

LAWTON – Deondre Ray led the Aggie men's basketball team with 21 points in a non-conference victory over the University of Science and Arts Saturday evening, 97-81. The win in front of the home crowd moved Cameron to 2-0 for the season and dropped USAO to 1-3.

Both programs exchanged points though the first 10 minutes of the contest before the Aggies went on a shooting spree on the floor to open up a double-digit, 28-18, lead on the Drovers by the midway marker.  USAO stayed within 11 of the Aggies late in the half but a Cameron Lee three pointer and a Bruce Barron dunk gave the Ags a 16 point, 53-37 lead.   A Drover bucket would close out the half with CU holding onto a 53-39 lead and shooting a blazing 58.1 percent on the floor, with eight three points made.  Deondre Ray paced the Aggies with 13 points, while Barron and Lee added 10 each.

Cameron left the door open for the Drovers to run through early in the second half after USAO took advantage of cold shooting by CU and went on a 13-3 run to pull within four with 15 left in the game. The two teams traded points for a while, until the Aggies went on a nine point run with nine minutes left to go up by 17. From there Cameron maintained a strong lead and closed out the game 97-81. Cameron had a two point advantage in second half scoring, 44-42, and shot 58 percent from the field. Desmond Henry put the team on his back and scored 14 points in the second frame while Barron and Ray had nine and eight points respectively.

The Aggies shot 58 percent for the night, going 60 percent from behind the arc and hitting 69 percent of their free throws. The Drovers shot 40 percent from the field, but the CU perimeter defense was able to hold them to 27 percent shooting from behind the arc. The Aggies were also helped out by 40 points coming off the bench.

Cameron won the battle down low, grabbing 41 rebounds, blocking nine shots, and scoring 42 points in the paint. However, they turned the ball over 12 times which led to 14 points for USAO.

Ray was 6-7 from the field, 3-4 from the three point line and 6-8 from the charity stripe. He also recorded five blocked shots and four rebounds. Barron finished the game with 19 points and eight assists, while Henry added 16 points. Also in double figures, was Lee who scored 13 and grabbed five boards. Matthew Don and Tank Mayberry led the team with eight rebounds apiece.

Cameron will return to action on Nov. 22 where they will visit Alva to face Northwestern Oklahoma.
