Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second half scoring outburst guides CU men to 3-0 start

ALVA – Desmond Henry guided Cameron with a double-double to lead the Ags past Northwestern Oklahoma 78-54 at Percefull Fieldhouse on Saturday night.  With the win against the Rangers the Aggies are 3-0 to open the year for the first time in two seasons.

Henry's 14 rebounds was a career high and he would add 11 points for the Aggies.  The 14 rebounds is a four year high last set by Kallan Glasgow on Jan 23, 2010 against Central Oklahoma.

With the loss at home against Cameron, the Rangers will fall to 1-2 overall in non-conference play.

Despite the final score, leaving for the locker room at the half it looked to be either team's game after 12 lead changes and the Rangers having a slight 34-33 edge on the Aggies.

The Aggies shot the ball from the field at 50 percent, while Northwestern Oklahoma hit 43.8 percent of their shots.   Even the Rangers lead, the Aggies were pulling down boards to a two-to-one margin over NWOSU.  Henry had 10 rebounds at the half; one fewer than the entire Ranger team, as Cameron pulled down 24 rebounds overall.    However it was CU's nine turnovers that would keep the Rangers in the ballgame early on with NWOSU getting 11 points off of Aggie miscues.

The second half proved to be a different story for the Aggies who retook the lead in the opening possession off of a Cameron Lee bucket and never looked back.   Cameron took advantage of 24.2 percent second half shooting by Northwestern Oklahoma and blew out to a 26 point lead in the closing seconds of the contest.   As a team CU's shooting improved more and they went 17-28 or 60.7 percent with Lee pacing the Ags having three buckets from beyond the arc, and Henry adding eight.

Jamaal Brantley paced CU on the scoring side with 15 points, Deondre Ray added 12, and Tank Mayberry chipped in 10.   DJ Jackson led all players on the floor with eight dishes.

The rebounding battle was dominated by the Aggies who had 49, while Northwestern Oklahoma had 27.  Cameron shot the ball at 55.2 percent and the Rangers were at 33.8 percent on their side of the court.

Laakeem Henderson led the Rangers with 12 points, with Darrian Depse  and T'aries Taylor both also in double-figures.

The Aggies will remain on the road to face Arkansas Tech on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
