Men's Basketball Preview: Arkansas Tech

LAWTON -- The Aggies are in their second of a five game road trip making a midweek on Tuesday to face Arkansas Tech.  This will be the second time in program history that the Aggies have visited Russellville and first meeting on 40 years between these two programs.  The Wonder Boys were picked to win the Great American Conference after a 21-10 season and a NCAA Regional berth last season.

Arkansas Tech (1-3): Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. | Live Video | Live Stats

A quick look at the Wonder Boys: The Wonder Boys have dropped three in a row after winning their season opener against Wayne State (Neb.) in Bartlesville.   Most recently, ATU faced Angelo State on Saturday at San Angelo falling 88-79 in overtime.  The Wonder Boys pulled down four more rebounds but the Rams pecked away 12 steals to get 19 points off of those miscues to pull away from ATU at the end of the night.

Arkansas Tech in four contests this season is being outscored by 9.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, on the court they are shooting 42.7 percent from the field, and averaging 9.5 three-pointers per game.  Mike Balugun is leading ATU with 13.3 points and he is their largest threat from the arc with 13 made this season.  Clarence Willard is the other Wonder Boy averaging double-digits with 12.5 points and has their highest shooting percentage at 54.3.

For the Aggies this will be the first meeting with ATU since the start of the 1973-74 season under Red Miller.  The Aggies have made one visit to Russellville in 1972 and fell 71-64, this will be their sixth meeting CU leading the series 4-1 over the Wonder Boys. They are led by Chad Kline who is in his first season as head coach of the ATU program.

Last time out: Desmond Henry guided Cameron with a double-double to lead the Ags past Northwestern Oklahoma 78-54 at Percefull Fieldhouse on Saturday night.  With the win against the Rangers the Aggies are 3-0 to open the year for the first time in two seasons.  Henry's 14 rebounds was a career high and he would add 11 points for the Aggies.  The 14 rebounds is a four year high last set by Kallan Glasgow on Jan 23, 2010 against Central Oklahoma.

Looking forward: Heading into Tuesday's contest the Aggies have a league high 55.8 field goal and 52.9 three-point percentage.   In scoring margin, the Aggies are beating their opponents by 20 points and overwhelmingly dominating the rebounding battle at a +17.   Cameron has eight different players averaging at-least seven points a game with three in double-figures.  Deondre Ray leads CU with 15.7 points, Henry is averaging 14.3 and leads the team with 8.3 rebounds per game, and Cameron Lee is chipping 12 a contest.  Bruce Barron and DJ Jackson are both averaging over four assists per game with Barron adding nine points and Jackson eight points per game.

Up next:  The Aggies will make Thanksgiving trip to Springfield, Mo. for the second season in a row to face Drury and East Central on Friday and Saturday.
