Men's Basketball Preview: Drury and East Central

LAWTON -- After falling for the first time on Tuesday at Arkansas Tech the Aggies will face another challenge on the road at Springfield, Mo. to face Drury on Friday and East Central on Saturday.  This will be the second year in a row that the Aggies have visited Drury for Thanksgiving and the first time Cameron will face East Central since departing the Lone Star Conference three seasons ago.  Drury was selected to win the North Division of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while East Central was picked to finish fourth in the Great American Conference. 

Drury (2-1): Nov. 28 at 3 p.m. | Live Stats

A quick look at the Panthers: Drury suffered their first loss of the season at Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday night with with DU only putting together 47 points to the Bearcats 60. The Panthers shot a season low 37 percent against NWMSU with 19 percent shooting at the arc.   As a team, the Panthers are shooting 45.1 percent from the field, and they are getting out-rebounded by over three a game, averaging 30.7 per game.  Kameron Bundy leads DU with 18.7 points per game, with Cameron Adams adding 16, and Mike Nwelue chipping in a little more than 10 a game.  Both Adams and Nwelue are DU's leading rebounders netting about seven boards per contest.  

Last season the Aggies would fall in overtime at DU, with the Panthers winning the overall series 4-2 over the Aggies.

East Central (3-2): Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. | Live Stats

A quick look at the Tigers: East Central played Cameron's sister school, Rogers State, and despite a 30-30 tie at halftime, the Tigers would fall for the second time this season, 84-70.  The Tigers lost season opener to Southwest Minnesota State before beating Wayne State (NE) and opening GAC play 2-0 with wins against Arkansas-Monticello and Henderson State.  In their five games this season, the Tigers have averaged 78.4 points per game and a 51.3 shooting percentage, while making one-third of three-pointers attempted.  East Central trails by three in the rebounding margin with just over 30 a game, but they are a +9 in the turnover battle with 67 this season.

The player to watch for ECU is Stirling Thomas who takes one-third of their shots, averaging 24 points, while shooting 52.6 percent from the field.  Henry Pwono is the Tigers second leading scorer with 16.2 points per game, and Braxton Reeves is the other ECU player in double-figures with 11.4 points. 

The Aggies have taken the last three meetings with ECU with the series edge going to Cameron 32-31 over the Tigers.

Looking forward: Following their loss to Arkansas Tech, the Aggies still have the highest shooting percentage in the LSC at 54.5, is top in rebounding margin with a +14.8, while having eight players averaging at least seven points per game.  Deondre Ray, Desmond Henry, and Cameron Lee all are leading CU with just over 12 points per game; Henry leads the Aggies with 6.8 rebounds, with Tank Mayberry and KeDorian Sullivan both averaging six a game.  DJ Jackson is averaging just less than 10 points with nearly five dishes per game this season.

Up next:  The Aggies will have a week off to face Oklahoma Christian on Dec. 6 in Oklahoma City.
