KINGSVILLE -- A win on Saturday at Texas A&M-Kingsville is what the Aggies needed to prevent a showdown with top-seeded West Texas A&M next Thursday in Canyon.  Cameron did that and took care of business with a stunning win after dropping the first two sets to edge out the Javelinas in five to move into the seven-seed for the league tournament. Â
With the win Cameron moves to 13-14 overall and 5-11 in league play, while Texas A&M-Kingsville falls to 18-12 and 7-9 in LSC action.
Eastern New Mexico earned a five set win of their own in Portales against Texas Woman's and hold ontos the tiebreaker to be the six-seed. Texas A&M-Commerce fell to the eight-seed at West Texas A&M and both teams will rematch on Thursday. Â
The Aggies will face second-seeded Texas Woman's who holds onto the tiebreaker over Angelo State by virtue of sweeping Tarleton State, while ASU split the regular season series.
Early on in the match, TAMUK looked to have the match in the bag after taking set one by a score of 25-19 and the second set, 25-21.Â
In the third set, CU took control and even went to set point at the 24-19 before the Javelinas rattled off five straight. A ball handling error and a bad set by Texas A&M-Kingsville kept CU alive and
Paige Holt knocked down a kill to give the Aggies a 27-25 win.
The fourth set continued to go the Aggies way after breaking a 2-2 tie, CU led the rest of the way to push the match to its limit by winning 25-21. Cameron used a .239 hitting percentage and 16 kills to squash down Kingsville who countered with a .089 hitting percentage and 13 kills.
Now with a second chance, Cameron had to battle to the Javelinas who weren't going to go down silently and looked to coast to victory with an 11-6 lead. However, after a CU timeout, the Aggies took advantage of a three Kingsville errors and a
Kat Evans kill to get within two and forcing the Javelinas to call timeout. Cameron kept picking at the lead and after another Evans kill and an Aggie block the set was tied up at 13 each.   The Javelinas would reach match point first but Evans smashed down her 26
th kill of the afternoon to tie it at 14, then added an service ace to get CU to match point, and then provided the assist to
Kayla Hebert to win the match for the Aggies.
The 26 kills by Evans was a career mark and she earned a double-double with 13 digs.Â
Kendra Adams was one kill short of a career mark with 18,
Cristina Viera would have double-double with 19 digs and a career high 14 kills.Â
Kayla Hebert dished out 47 assists and had 18 digs for a double-double performance.Â
As a team CU hit .184 with 67 assists, and 81 digs; Texas A&M-Kingsville hit .216, while adding 61 assists, and 82 digs.
Cameron will play one more regular season match in Lawton on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to host Southwestern Oklahoma.Â
