Balanced team effort guides CU to road win

BETHANY – A balanced scoring attack provided Cameron a 73-66 win at Southern Nazarene on Friday night.  The Aggies had four in double-figures to move them to 6-4 overall in non-conference play and their first consecutive win since the start of the season; with the loss to Cameron the Crimson Storm are 6-4.

Cameron Lee led the Aggies with 14 points and he was a perfect 3-for-3 from the arc.  DJ Jackson also made three triples and scored 13, while Jamaal Brantley and KeDorian Sullivan both had 12 apiece.

The Crimson Storm opened the game on a tear in the first four minutes with a 14-6 lead on the Cameron.   But despite the hot start SNU cooled off, and only put up four points in the next eight minutes to allow the Aggies to pull back in and take a 20-18 lead off of a Jackson jumper.   From then until the end of the half nether team blinked as they traded leads, but CU after a three point, 29-26, advantage with 2:33 left the Aggies fell silent until the buzzer while SNU scored five unanswered to take a 33-31 lead into the locker room.

Cameron shot 48.1 percent from the field but made one three-pointer, while turning the ball over nine times.  Even with the CU miscues, the Crimson Storm only capitalized with four points, while shooting 33.3 percent; but five made shots from beyond the arc proved to be a difference.

After trailing the first couple of minutes of the second half, Cameron went on a 14-3 run to lead 47-39 and never looked back on SNU.  Cameron went on and opened up their largest lead of 13, 66-53, with just under four minutes to go and coasted to their sixth win of the season.

For the night, Cameron shot 52.2 percent on the floor with seven three pointers and 36 total rebounds, 12 more than SNU who managed to shoot 41.1 percent on their side of the court.

Much like Tuesday's game against Bacone, Cameron's inside presence was felt with 30 points in the paint, 14 more than Southern Nazarene.

Desmond Henry added eight points with a pair of boards and two assists for CU, Tank Mayberry had a game high nine boards with eight points.

SNU had four in double-figures with LB Willis having a game high 19 points.

The Aggies will have a quick turnaround and host Dallas Christian on Saturday at 4 p.m.
