SAN ANTONIOÂ -- Cameron provided a scare for Division I, University of Texas at San Antonio after leading for the majority of the opening half and rallying back from a 12 point deficit but the Aggies faded down the stretch to drop the exhibition 79-68 on Tuesday afternoon. Â
The contest counted for the Roadrunners who moved to 5-5 overall and 6-0 against the Aggies all-time.
Cameron cleared their bench and had 10 individuals lending a hand in the scoring effort on Tuesday against UTSA.Â
Deondre Ray paced the Aggies with 13 points and added a pair of blocks and assists in 21 minutes of work.Â
Cameron Lee knocked down three triples for nine points, with
DJ Jackson and
Jamaal Brantley both chipping in eight points. Â
Tank Mayberry led CU with four blocks in the rematch against his former squad.
The Aggies led in shooting with 41.5 percent of their shots made, compared to 36.1 percent from UTSA. However, the Ags were out-rebounded by 16 with the Roadrunners pulling down 50 boards.Â
Cameron led for the better part of the first half and grabbed onto a six point, 24-18 advantage, with 7:03 left after a Ray triple. Â But despite the six point lead, and after a
KeDorian Sullivan dunk with 5:55 left, UTSA went ahead and scored 12 points unanswered in the following three minutes to pull ahead.   Cameron managed to only put up five points in the last six minutes and went to the locker room trailing 43-33 despite shooting a better 43.3 percent on the floor.   UTSA managed 36.2 percent shooting on their side of the floor but the Ags would send the Roadrunners to the charity stripe 15 times with 13 points scored.
After the half, UTSA scored on the opening possession to give them a 12 point lead on the Aggies. However, Cameron picked up the pace and rallied back to make it a one possession, 51-48, game by the 14:23 mark and two minutes later, a
Matthew Don bucket and a UTSA foul pushed the Aggies ahead 57-56 off the old-fashioned three-point play. After a 60-60 tie with 9:23 left, the Roadrunners went on an 11-2 run on the Ags and took a 71-62 lead with three minutes remaining and moved on for their fifth win of the season.
From the arc, CU went 9-23 or 39.1 percent while knocking down 10 blocks, UTSA was 31 percent from downtown and had six blocks. Â
The Roadrunners had four in double-figures with Kaj-Bojorn Sherman and Jeromine Hill both having a game high 21 points.
The Aggies will open up 2015 on Jan 3 in Lawton to host Northwestern Oklahoma at 4 p.m. Â
