Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Aggies take down Northwestern Oklahoma, 72-53

LAWTON --  Cameron made the first bucket and never looked back in a 72-53 win at home over Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday evening.  With the win against the Rangers, the Aggies will start Lone Star Conference play on Wednesday with an 8-4 overall record and a four game winning streak.

The Aggie wheelhouse was led by KeDorian Sullivan and Cameron Lee who both had a game high 16 points, with Deondre Ray a point back of them.  Matthew Don led both teams with eight rebounds and he added seven points.

DJ Jackson matched a six year assists high for the Aggies with 11, and it was the second game in a row were a CU player has hit this number with Bruce Barron netting the same total on Dec. 20 against Dallas Christian.

"I thought defensively tonight it was our best effort of the season," said head coach Nate Gamet.  "The guys came out and executed the game plan and just did a solid job, we held a team to less than 30 percent from the field, and under 15 percent from the arc...we had some really good energy tonight and I was glad to see that.

The Aggies slowed down the Rangers offense and they would not hit 10 points for the first 13 minutes of the contest.   Cameron took advantage of 26.9 percent shooting by Northwestern Oklahoma and maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the half.   The Aggies might have only gone 3-11 from the arc but went to locker room with a 35-23 lead on the Rangers with 50 percent shooting from the field.

Ray and Sullivan both paced CU at the half with seven points each, with the Aggies out-rebounding NWOSU by five with 21 boards.

The second half opened up as a different story for Cameron and their 12 point lead being shrunken by a 7-2 run by the Rangers in the first three minutes of the second period.   However, Ray dropped a three ball and a Jamaal Brantley bucket with an and-one reopened the contest to a 43-32 Aggie lead with less than 16 minutes left and never looked back.   Cameron would open up their largest lead of the night at 23 points, with 4:44 to go before settling with a 19 point win.

Cameron shot 54.9 from the field and out-rebounded NWOSU by eight with 39 rebounds.   The Aggies also dominated the inside game with 42 points in the paint, while the Rangers had only 24.

Darrian Dempsey led the Rangers with 17 points, with Laakeem Henderson adding 12.

Cameron will return to action to open league play at home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with Eastern New Mexico.
