Cold shooting spoils Ags in loss to Angleo State 70-59

Box Score SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Cameron University men's basketball team got a career high 29 points from Will Cook but they would fall to Angelo State 70-59 on Saturday.

The loss for the Aggies (11-13, 5-8 LSC) and a loss by Texas A&M Kingsville to Midwestern State ensures Cameron that they cannot fall to the seven seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Allen, Texas next month.

Cameron is one game back of Texas A&M Commerce for the five seed, if the Aggies were to win next Saturday to Midwestern State and Commerce were to lose to Tarleton State, Cameron would be awarded to five seed by virtue of having the highest league win.

Cook shot 8-12 from the field with six rebounds and three steals to lead the Aggies.  Craig Foster went scoreless for nearly 35 minutes and was in danger of having a 50 game scoring streak snapped before putting up eight points late.

As a group Cameron was held to 33.3% shooting (19-57) on the floor which was their second lowest shooting night this season.  Angelo State went 43.8% (21-48) on their side of the court.

In the rebounding battle the Rams dominated CU 46 to 30.

Cameron trailed from the opening tip and Cook nearly was the only offense for the Aggies with 17 first half points.  A poor shooting first half by Angelo State kept the game close 25-23 at the intermission.

Angelo State pulled away in the first five minutes of the second half after a 10-3 run gave the Rams a 37-27 lead at the 17 minute mark.  Continued cold shooting on the floor by the Aggies allowed the Rams to get their largest lead of the night at 16 points with 10 minutes to go.

Cameron didn't go down without a fight and they cut down the Angelo State lead down to five after eight unanswered points to make it a 59-54 ballgame at the five minute mark.

Despite the comeback attempt it was short-lived and Angelo State pulled away by ten points and maintained a double-digit lead until the final buzzer to take down CU 70-59.

The Aggies will be off until their final home game of the season on Saturday, March 1 at 6 pm where they will host Midwestern State.
