COMMERCE, Texas – Cameron can put their Lone Star Conference streak in the past after getting their first league win in nearly two years by beating Texas A&M-Commerce 3-2 on the road.
Entering Saturday's match the Aggies dropped their last 20 in a row in league play and last season Cameron was up two sets on the Lions in Commerce and they would fall, Friday night the story was different.
"We've talked about the process of learning how to win matches and tonight the team battled back late and earned this win," said head coach
Qi Wang. "This wasn't our strongest performance of the season but we fought with plenty of heart tonight."Â
This was the third match in a row where CU was pushed to a fifth set and second win in a row for the Aggies.
Cameron controlled the opening frame until Texas A&M-Commerce chopped down an Aggie six point lead at the 18-12 marker and went on a 9-3 run to tie the set at 21 each. Despite the Lion run,
Rebecca Green smashed a kill and CU was aided by a A&M-C bad set to pull ahead and take the set 25-23.
The Lions would even the match in the next frame thanks to a 11-2 run and took the set with ease 25-16.   CU showed some muscle following the break and returned the favor to control the third set to win the frame 25-18 over the Lions.
With the CU advantage in the fourth set, neither team seemed to take control until the Lions went on a 5-0 run to take a 21-16 lead. Cameron couldn't close the late gap would fall 25-18 and for the third match in a row the Ags were pushed to a decisive fifth set.
Commerce opened the frame with a four unanswered points off of a kill and three CU errors. The Aggies were not done though and battled back late to tie the set at 11 after a pair of kills from
Cristina Viera. After trading points, Commerce pushed CU to match point a 14-13 after a kill before the Aggies responded back with pair of kills from
Shannon DuLaney to push the Lions to match point.

The Lions would call time out but Cameron with the momentum got a kill from
Kat Evans to give CU the win.
Cameron had four with double-double matches, DuLaney led the Ags with 14 kills and 17 digs, Viera added 13 kills and added a career high 31 digs, and Evans chipped in 12 kills and digs.
Kayla Hebert came away with 30 assists while adding 20 digs.
Rebecca Green was the fourth Aggie with double-digit kills with 11 and she led the team with four total blocks.Â
As a team, CU had six players with over 10 digs and ended the night with 127, their most since Oct. 6, 2007;
Lindsey McCauley had a career night with 21.
With the win the Aggies will move to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in league play while the Lions fall to 2-9 overall and 0-2 the LSC.
Cameron move on and face Texas Woman's on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Denton.
