DENTON, Texas – The Aggies fall to 1-3 in Lone Star Conference play after losing in straight sets Saturday afternoon at Texas Woman's.
Set one was back and forth with each team matching each other until a four point run put the pioneers up 21-15. After a kill from Shannon Dulaney pulled the CU score to 17, TWU struck back with two points of their own, making it 24-16. Despite two straight points by the Ags, one coming off a
Cristina Viera kill, the Pioneers closed the set out 25-18 with a kill from Mallory Kuechle.
Texas Woman's continued their momentum into the second set, scoring four straight point before the Aggies got on the board. A couple of big runs by TWU put them up big and there was no turning back as they won set two 25-15.
Set three was a lot like the first, as both teams traded points early, but the Pioneers had runs of five and six straight points that put them ahead of the Aggies by a wide margin. TWU took the set 25-18.
Cameron hit just struggled on offense, with an attack percentage of .155, 35 kills, and 15 errors, compared to TWU's .355 attack percentage, 51 kills, and just seven errors. The Pioneers also won the match at the net, totaling nine team blocks compared to CU's one.
Viera led the Aggies with nine kills, and also totaled 10 digs, while
Rebecca Green added eight kills and
Kat Evans added seven.
Ingrid Boatman led Cameron with 16 assists with
Kayla Hebert chipping in 11 of her own. Freshman,
Lindsey McCauley was the other Aggie with double digit digs, totaling 19.
Jaqueline Santos led the Pioneers with 13 kills and only one error, while Kuechle and Elizabeth Pennington had 12 kills a piece with Kuechle adding 12 digs as well.
The loss drops Cameron to 5-4 on the season with a 1-3 conference mark, while TWU moves to 7-4 on the season with a 3-1 LSC record, and extends a streak of beating the Aggies in straight sets to six games in a row.
Cameron will return to action on Sept. 23 as the head to Canyon, Texas for a matchup with #20 West Texas A&M.
