Aggie women fall at hot shooting West Texas A&M, 87-69

CANYON, Texas – The Aggies couldn't slow down a hot shooting West Texas A&M offense who led the distance 87-69, snapping a three game winning streak for CU.   With the loss to the number-3 ranked Lady Buffs, Aggies are 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the Lone Star Conference, while WT goes to 10-2 and 1-1 in league play.

For the fifth time this season Jazzmine Robinson led the Aggies in scoring with 23 points and in her last eight games she has averaged nearly 22 points.  Brandi Leal knocked down five treys for 15 points and Jade Herl had nine, all coming from beyond the arc.

DJ Vallier paced the Aggies with eight boards and added six points, as CU pulled down 27 rebounds as a group, five back of West Texas A&M.

Cameron went 44.2 percent from the field with 10 shots from downtown but the Lady Buffs countered with 62 percent shooting, and five hitting double-digit scoring.

Cameron opened slowly out of the gates with four points in the first 5:28 of the contest and trailing the Lady Buffs 25-4.  Despite falling behind by 21 points, CU rallied to get within of 10 of WT thanks to back-to-back triples from Leal to making it a 32-22 ballgame with 8:44 left on the clock.   However this would be the closest the Aggies would get and a blazing 70 percent shooting half handed the Lady Buffs a 26 point lead in the closing minutes before leaving at halftime with a 54-31 advantage.

Cameron went 41.7 percent from the field with Leal knocking down four three pointers at to pace the Ags at half with 12 points.

In the second half the Cameron continued to trail WT and the closest they got was 14 points at the 16:18 marker after a Robinson three-pointer.  The Aggies did manage to outscore WT 38-33 in the second half off of slightly improved shooting on the floor.

Danielle Logan led WT with 16 points, with Sasha Watson adding 15.

The Lady Buffs controlled the inside game with 42 points, 15 more than CU, and 31 points off of Aggie turnovers.

Cameron will remain on the road to face Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday.
