SAN ANGELO – Foul trouble and 27 turnovers led to a Cameron men's basketball loss as they fell to #11/8 Angelo State, 75-57 in San Angelo, Texas Saturday night. The Aggies, who with the loss drop to 10-8 overall and 2-4 in Lone Star Conference play, were in the game up the last four minutes of play, when the Rams went on a 15-0 run to close out the game.

Cameron has lost three straight on the road, and is currently in sixth place in the Lone Star Conference standings.

CU shot 41.7 percent from the field, but only hit four of their 15 three point attempts, while going 81.3 percent from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 34-32, but turned the ball over 12 more times than ASU and committed 26 fouls compared to the Rams' 17.

Jamaal Brantley and Desmond Henry both had 12 points and six rebounds apiece, while Cameron Lee hit three shots from long range for nine points and Matthew Don had a game high 11 rebounds to go along with six points of his own.

Angelo State is now 17-1 overall this season with a 5-0 conference mark. They shot 44 percent from the field, 25 percent from behind the arc, and 72 percent from the free throw line. Chris Jones led all scorers with 18 points, while Marcel Holden had 13 points and Omari Gudal had 12 points.

The first half started out back and forth through the first five minutes of action, until a couple of small runs by the Aggies gave them a six point lead just nine minutes into the game. After ASU cut the lead to just two, Lee hit a three pointer and Brantley added two points to jump the lead back up to seven with eight minutes left in the half.

After trading buckets, ASU used a 6-0 run to shrink the CU lead to just one point with four minutes left in the half. After a couple of Aggie free throws, ASU hit a three at the two minute mark to tie up the game at 30-30. Cameron answered with a three of their own by Lee to retake the lead with a minute to go.  Angelo State hit a last second shot to go into intermission with Cameron up by just one, 33-32.

The Aggies shot 62 percent in the first half of play, but shot only 38 percent from three and 57 percent from the free throw line and gave up the ball 16 times. Brantley led the team with eight points through one, with Don adding six points and seven rebounds.

Angelo State struck first to take the lead early in the second half, but the Aggies answered right back and took back the lead on a pair of Brantley free throws. From there the two teams went back and forth with CU not gaining more than a three point lead until the Rams tied the game at 43 all at the 13:43 mark. After four ASU free throws the Rams took a four point lead, forcing the Aggies to call a timeout. Cameron cut the lead down to one after three made free throws by DJ Jackson, but Angelo State responded by extending the lead to five.

After back and forth buckets, Cameron got to within one twice at the 7:32 mark and the 5:51 mark, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the game. CU hung with the Rams until there were four minutes left in the game, when ASU went on a 15-0 run to finish the game, 75-57.

After a week off of action, Cameron will be back at the Aggie Gym to host Midwestern State for their first match-up of the season on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.
