Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Aggie men fall to #23 Midwestern State, 88-77

LAWTON – Cameron managed to get within six points late but they would fall to number-23 Midwestern State 88-77 at the Aggie Gym on Saturday night.   The loss for CU was their second in a row and their fourth out their last five to fall to 10-9 overall and 2-5 in Lone Star Conference action, Midwestern State moved up to 17-4 and 6-1 in league play.

KeDorian Sullivan led the Aggies with 16 points, but the CU offense was paced by Desmond Henry who had a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists; Jamaal Brantley was the other CU player in double figures with 15 points.

Midwestern's three point attack guided them through the game with 65 percent shooting from downtown and 13 made treys, Breston McNeal and Derrell Gibbs combined for 11 alone.  Cameron countered with eight; DJ Jackson, Cameron Lee, and Sullivan all had a pair.

"It's very difficult when you are giving good looks to a good team who can hit those shots," said head coach Nate Gamet.  "It doesn't really matter if we don't win the game how balanced we are. It's nice that we are, but we have to do a better job of converting on the defensive end, that's whats going to win games."

"We have to play defense, make free throws, and don't turn the ball over. If we do that we will have a good shot at being in the games. If we don't then we wont."

The Aggies trailed in the shooting battle with MSU going 49.1 percent from the field and CU at 45.3 percent, MSU took the rebounding battle by two with 30 overall boards.

For MSU, McNeal had a game high 26 points and Gibbs had 21.

Both teams opened locked within a possession of each other but it would be Midwestern State splitting the difference in the final minutes of the half.   The Mustangs used an 8-1 run to take a 31-22 lead with nine seconds left but Desmond Henry closed the half off with a mid-court three-ball to make it a six point MSU advantage at the intermission.   Cameron would be shooting 42.9 percent from the field with eight players scoring.

The Mustangs pulled away at the 10 minute mark in the second half and they would make the gap 18 points for the Aggies.  Cameron would scratch back into the game and pulled within eight in the final two minutes and a minute later Brantley hit a pair at the line to get CU within six.   However, Cameron would be forced to foul and Midwestern iced the game with free throws to send CU to their ninth loss of the season.

The Aggies next face Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 4 in Lawton with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
