LAWTON – Cameron rallied back from a double-digit Texas A&M-Commerce lead but the Aggies would fade down the stretch to fall 76-71 on Wednesday night at the Aggie Gym. The loss to the Lions is CU's third in a row and sends them back down to .500 (10-10) and 2-6 in Lone Star Conference play. Texas A&M-Commerce snapped a four game skid in Lawton to send them to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in LSC action.
Desmond Henry led Cameron with 14 points and had a perfect 10-10 night at the charity stripe,
KeDorian Sullivan earned a double-double with 11 points and a team high 10 boards. Â
Jamaal Brantley and
Cameron Lee both added 13 points to the CU offense.
The Aggies would shoot 50 percent in the second half but 36.5 percent for the night in the losing effort, and they would be out rebounded by three by the Lions who collected 36 overall.
Texas A&M-Commerce shot 47.5 percent on their side of the floor with four in double-figures; Christian Macauley would come away with a double-double after getting a game high 20 points and 10 rebounds.Â
"I thought the bench stepped up and did really well. We have a lot of injuries right now, and hopefully we will get everyone back soon," said head coach Nate Gamet.  "Our the bench came in ready, Zac Tabor did a great job and had two really good looks...both of them went in, and defensively he held down and did what he needed to while he was in there."Cameron couldn't get anything to drop in the first half, shooting 25 percent from the floor and 20 percent at the arc. The Aggies would be limited to only 22 points at the half while trailing A&M-Commerce by 11, Sullivan would lead CU on the floor with six points.
"I thought we played good the first half, we had some things we needed to clean up a little bit, but I thought we played well," added Gamet.  "We just weren't hitting any shots. We were getting good looks, but just couldn't knock them down. We told them that shooting will come, we just have to keep with it on the defensive end."Despite everything that could go wrong for CU in the first half, the Aggies rallied back from the 11 point hole and made the long climb back to overtake the Lions 46-45 at the 12:10 mark.  However, the Lions retook control but Cameron would stay in the hunt down the stretch and remained within a pair of possessions away. With 1:08 left in the game Brantley got CU within three of A&M-Commerce to make it a 73-70 ballgame but it would be the closest they would get.
Cameron will hit the road next and face number-12Â Tarleton State on Saturday.Â
"Another ranked opponent on their home floor," said Gamet. Â "It doesn't get any easier, and our guys know it. It would've been nice to go get a win here and kind of get moral going a little bit. The guys have been playing really hard, and it just little things like execution here and there that we are not finishing out."
"We have that a lot with a lot of new guys, but that excuse has worn off. We are 20 games in, so we have to start making those adjustments."
