Robinson's double-double leads CU to 59-50 win over Rangers

LAWTON – Cameron rebounded from a slow start and opened 2015 with a 59-50 win against Northwestern Oklahoma in the Aggie Gym on Saturday afternoon.   With the win CU will start Lone Star Conference play with a two game winning streak and a 3-6 overall record, Northwestern Oklahoma will fall to 3-8 overall.

The Aggies led for over 28 minutes and maintained a double-digit lead on the Rangers for the majority of the second half.

"Pace is a big deal for us and we've talked alot about it," said head coach Tom Webb. "At the end of every half of every game we have ended really strong and I think we wear them down.  At Southeastern if you took the last eight minutes of the first half and last eight of the second half I think we were 23 to three in scoring, it was the same thing today in the first half we go on a big run."

"We went and played one of the toughest schedules in the nation and I think it prepared us for the upcoming games...overall I'm really excited for this group to see what happens."

Jazzmine Robinson had her third double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds, it was also the third time this she had 20 or more points.  Markita Zeigler led the Aggies with a career high 12 rebounds, besting her previous mark by one that was made last season at home against Dallas Christian.   Zeigler was also CU's second leading scorer with nine, with Brandi Leal and Jade Herl both matching her total.

The Rangers opened with a 11-2 run on the Aggies and maintained that lead until Robinson knocked down one of her four triples to swing CU out in front, 18-15 with under nine left on the clock.  Cameron maintained the advantage on NWOSU for the rest of the half and after back-to-back treys CU went to the locker room with a 10 point, 35-25 lead.

Robinson went 6-10 on the floor to pace CU at the half with 17 points, and 43.3 percent shooting by the Aggie squad.

Aggie defense shut down the Rangers for the majority of the second half and allowed only six points through 13 minutes.  Cameron continued to extend their lead out to 18 points to give the Ags a 49-31 advantage on the Rangers with 8:35 left on the clock.   The Rangers chipped away at the CU lead in the closing minutes and managed to get within nine of CU with a three pointer but it would be right before the final horn as the Aggies would get their third win of the season.

Cameron edged NWOSU by one in the rebounding battle with 36 and shot 41.5 percent from the floor, with 10 three pointers.  The Rangers shot 34.5 percent, while going 23.5 from the arc, and 37.5 percent at the charity stripe.

Jonna Gregory led the Rangers with 13 points, with Jonae Isaac one back with 12.

The Aggies will open Lone Star Conference play at home on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. with Eastern New Mexico.
