Tarleton State sweeps Cameron

STEPHENVILLE, Texas– Cameron attempted a third set comeback but would be swept in straight sets by Tarleton State (14-25, 16-25, 17-25) Friday evening. The Aggies are now 13-2 on the season and 4-2 in Lone Star Conference play.

Freshman Jenna Gillean led CU's offensive front with five kills followed by senior Kat Evans and freshman Kayla Allen who added four. Freshman Tori Luckenbill provided 14 assists for the Ags, while junior Ciandra Sebourn contributed ten digs.

Tarleton State held Cameron to a .000 hitting percentage, while the TexAnns ended the match with a .241 hitting clip. Overall, TSU recorded 47 kills, 51 digs, and seven blocks. Meanwhile, Cameron had a total of 21 kills, 41 digs, and three blocks.

Even though Cameron got off to a 2-0 start with back-to-back kills, Tarleton quickly took command of the first set. Tarleton knocked down four straight kills to take the lead, 2-4. The TexAnns scoring chain continued as they went on to take set one, 14-25, led by sophomore Hailey Roberts who had nine kills.

Set two told a similar story as Roberts paced TSU with ten kills, leading her team to take the second set, 16-25.

The third set saw the most tightly contested action of the match as the Aggies began a comeback attempt. Errors plagued TSU in the first part of the set. After five tied scores, the Aggies jumped ahead 9-6 for their largest lead of the match following a kill from Gillean and two TexAnn attack errors. The set knotted twice more before a kill from Roberts started a five point run for Tarleton, who would retain its lead to win, 17-25.

Roberts led Tarleton State with 24 kills and a .314 attacking percentage.

The Aggies remain on the road as they take on Angelo State at 2 p.m. Oct. 10 in San Angelo, Texas.
