Game Notes

First tip: The Aggies are 13 days removed from their last on court action after playing at UTEP in an exhibition contest.  Cameron gave the Miners more than they could bargain for and led for nearly half the contest with 14 players seeing the floor.  Senior Deondre Ray paced the Aggies with 18 points and freshman Tyler Williams came off the bench with 15 points in 17 minutes of playing time.

About Newman: The Jets finished last season with a 15-11 record, missing out in postseason play, and were picked this year to finish in seventh place in the Heartland Conference.  NU returns two starters from a season ago, senior guard Cortrael Colbert and senior forward James Pegues, but picked up three NCAA Division I transfers, Gavin Thurman, Daniel Nwosu, and Jalen Love.  Newman played an exhibition contest against Livin' the Dream in Wichita, Kan. With the Jets winning in a 117-100 shootout;  Thurman led NU with 24 points with six made three-pointers.

CU vs. NU Series: This will be the fourth overall meeting between both programs and first since Dec. 30, 2009 where the Aggies squeaked by in a 47-46 defensive battle in Lawton.  The only other time these two programs met was in Jan. 1969 with both programs splitting the home-and-home series in CU's first season as a four-year institution.

About Oklahoma Christian: Oklahoma Christian was picked to finish in 10th place in the Heartland Conference following a 6-20 season.  After spending the last few years as a NCAA Division II transitional member from NAIA, this will be OC's first year as a full NCAA Institution.  OC has four starters (John Moon, Elijah Strickland, Jordan Box and Jordan Rutherford) back from last season and is a younger program with only one senior on its roster.  Earlier in the week, the Eagles rolled to an 84-65 win over Central Christian off 50.8 percent shooting from the field (31 of 61) and going 88.2 percent from the free-throw line (15 of 17).

CU vs. OC Series: Cameron on the series with Oklahoma Christian is locked up at 9-9 with the Aggies beating the Eagles in their last three meetings.  Last season, CU took a 68-61 win at Oklahoma City to snap a three game skid in December.  The overall series has been reestablished with this being the third year in a row the two have played each other.  From 1985 through 2012, the series between the Eagles and Aggies was dormant.

Opening with a W: Cameron has not lost a season opener in seven seasons, and they are 34-14 as a four-year institution.

Life on the road: Cameron starts their year on the road for 12 out of their first 15 games and does not host a NCAA Division II school until its LSC home opener on Jan. 10, 2016 against West Texas A&M.

Mountain Climbing: On the weekend of Nov. 20-21, the Aggies will make a rocky trip to Gunnison, Colo. the home of Western State Colorado for the first time in program history.  Cameron will be playing at 7,723 feet above sea level in Paul Wright Gym, the highest collegiate gym in the world.

Pick Six: Cameron was selected sixth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll which reflected their finish from the 2014-15 season where they went 13-15 overall.

School ='s Name: Cameron Lee will enter his senior season as one of the LSC's primary threats from beyond the arc by leading the league with a 48% success rate from downtown.  Lee was fourth in the LSC with 2.3 treys per contest.

Season three: The 2015-16 season is Nate Gamet's third full season as the head coach of the Cameron men's basketball program.  Gamet is 24-31 overall and has coached CU to three postseason appearances, making his official debut in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Added bench experience:  Andrew Brown joins the Aggie coaching staff and is a 100 game winner as a head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State. Brown led the Rangers from 2007-15 and complied an overall record of 119-112. In eight seasons at NWOSU, Brown had five 1,000 point scorers, with three of those inside of the top-5 all-time at Northwestern, and six All-Americans.
