CU's bench carries team past Texas A&M-Intentional

CANYON, Texas -- Cameron's bench lifted them to a 77-58 win on Friday afternoon over Texas A&M-International on the campus of West Texas A&M.  The Aggies picked up 54 points from their non-starters with Brandi Leal going 5-for-6 at the arc with 17 points to lead her team.

Caitlin Clancy also provided CU with 16 points and showed some marksmanship with three treys.

"Our kids did a great job this afternoon controlling the pace and our bench really gave us an extra boost in the win," said head coach Tom Webb.  "When you can had two kids come off the bench and go 8-for-11 from the arc like what Brandi and Caitlin did today we will be tough to beat."

"This will be our only game in two weeks and we told the team that before we hit the floor that we needed to get out there and  play hard today and I'm happy with our overall performance."

The Aggies won rebounding battle for the first time this season with 42 boards, which was two more than the Dustdevils.  CU senior DJ Vallier had a double-double off the bench with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Aggies.

Cameron (4-1) never looked back at TAMIU after the four minute mark in the opening quarter and they would lead by double-digits for the majority of the contest.  The Aggies led for over 35 minutes and had their largest advantage of 22 points over A&M-International (1-4) three minutes into the fourth quarter.

The Aggies shot around 45% from the field and at the arc with the Dustdevils countering with 35.3% shooting on the floor and going 5-for-22 at the arc.

Keiona Mathews paced A&M-International with 22 points.

Charron Montgomery was CU's other scorer in double-figures with 13 points, she also had a team high five assists.

With the cancelation of Saturday's contest with Minnesota State Moorehead, the Aggies will be off for a week and will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 5 to host UA-Fort Smith at 2 p.m.
