Game Notes

First tip: Cameron's second season will start on New Year's Eve at West Texas A&M when both teams will open their Lone Star Conference slate.  All eight men's basketball programs qualified for the LSC postseason tournament and will play a 14 game home-and-home series to determine a regular season champion, as well as seeding.

Heading into LSC play the Aggies have the third best shooting percentage at 48.5 both have struggled to find a rhythm at the arc and at the line.  Cameron is last in three-point percentage (30.5) and at the charity stripe (62.2).

Cameron Lee has averaged over 20 points in his last two games and leads CU in scoring with 13.7 points, which is eleventh best in the LSC.  Jamaal Brantley is picking up just under seven boards a game with the Aggies +8.9 as a team in rebounds.  JV Long leads the LSC in steals with 1.8 per game and he is fourth in assists with 4.1 per contest.

Last time out: Southwestern Adventist gave the Aggies a fight on Saturday, Dec. 19 and led for nearly a half but a 24 point effort from Cameron Lee pushed the Ags to an 87-68 win to close out their non-conference season.  Lee hit six three pointers and was one point away from a career high for the Aggies.  Jamaal Brantley was a rebound short of a double-double with nine boards and 17 points; he would also have a team high five assists.  Lawton native, James Cross had a career night with 14 points and he would have seven rebounds.

Cameron dominated the glass with 51 rebounds which was 31 more than the Knights.  The Aggies also showed a strong inside presence with 48 points in the paint.  From the field, CU shot 35-for-67 but went 32% from the arc.  Southwestern Adventist cooled off in the final minutes and shot 23-for-58 on their side of the court.

About West Texas A&M: Heading into conference play, the Buffs are 10-4 to start their season and are coming off a pair of wins in Puerto Rico prior to the holiday break. Despite dropping their first game in Puerto Rico after a late run fell short, WT bounced back to pick up two wins on the trip where they averaged 69 points per contest, shooting 42% from the field, 27% behind the arc and 59% from the line. On the season, the squad is shooting 46% overall, but is 34% from long range and is best in the league at three-pointers per game at 9.7 behind David Chavlovich who is second nationally in 3 point field goal attempts (129) and total three pointers made (53). Chavlovich leads his team in scoring, averaging 19.2 ppg and 3.8 treys per game. For upcoming league play, the Buffs were selected to finish fifth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll. WT finished last season with a 17-12 overall record 7-7 LSC play.

CU vs. WT: Cameron trails the overall series 30-12 and has dropped their last two meetings in a row.  The last time out at West Texas A&M, Cameron fell (83-82) due to a last second shot at the buzzer.  Under Gamet, the Aggies are 2-2 overall.

About Tarleton State: The Texans will face Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday prior to playing the Aggies.  Outside of a trip to Las Vegas for a holiday tournament, Tarleton State has remained at home for its non-conference season playing nine contests.   During that stretch CSU-Pueblo handed TSU a 87-84 overtime loss at home.  Drury, a team that the Aggies beat during Thanksgiving is the only other team to defeat Tarleton State; the Panthers won in Las Vegas 68-67.

As a team TSU is averaging just over 83 points per game and shooting the ball at 48.3% from the field.  On defense, TSU leads the LSC by allowing 65.2 points per game.  However, like the Aggies they have struggled from the arc and they are last in three-point percentage (30%); Cameron is seventh in the league.  EJ Reed leads the LSC in scoring and rebounding with 20.1 points and 8.9 boards per outing; he also is shooting the ball at 65.2% from the field which is eleventh best in the nation.

CU vs. TSU Series: The Texans control the series 24-11 and have won the last four meetings in a row after Cameron won two in a row during the 2012-13 season.  The series balance is mostly found on each team's home court with Tarleton State winning 15 out of 17 meetings in Stephenville.  Cameron has won two games in Wisdom Gym since TSU became a NCAA Division II member in 2013 and 1996.
