Henry's double-double guides CU to road win

PORTALES, N.M.  – A second half 14-0 run by pushed the Cameron men to a win in a low scoring 55-47 contest at Eastern New Mexico to snap a four game skid on Wednesday night.  The win for CU is their first on the road in Lone Star Conference play and first since the start of the year on Jan. 3 at Northwestern Oklahoma.

Cameron's 55 points was their second lowest scoring effort of the season but the 47 points CU held the Greyhounds to was their best since Nov.11, 2012 against Southwestern Adventist (49 points).   The Aggies win will carry them up to 3-7 in LSC play and back to .500 overall at 11-11, CU still has some work to do climb up the league standings through; Cameron is two games back of West Texas A&M who they will play on Saturday.

Desmond Henry had his third double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds and had hit double-figures in six straight contests; he also knocked out a career high five steals on the Greyhounds. Jamaal Brantley matched his career high in rebounds with 10, while adding eight points.   KeDorian Sullivan would hit double-figures as well with 10 points.

Cameron shot 45 percent from the field but was only held to three triples for the night, Eastern New Mexico would match CU's total at the arc but they would have 32.1 percent shooting overall.  The Aggies won the rebounding battle with 39, which was 10 more than ENMU, but 19 Cameron turnovers led to 16 points for the Greyhounds.

John Gilliam led Eastern New Mexico (7-16, 0-10 LSC) with 17 points, while Chris Wyms added 11, and Lawrence Domingo chipped in 10.

Cameron stayed out in front for the majority of the first half but faded to the intermission.  With 10 minutes left, CU was up eight points (19-11) but scoring droughts provided ENMU to rally back and take a five point, 28-23 lead with a minute to go.    A pair of free throws from Bruce Barron would make it a 28-26 Greyhound lead at the half.

The Greyhound continued to lead by at most a pair of possessions for the better part of the second half. However after a 42-37 ENMU advantage with 9:15 remaining, Cameron closed the lid on the basket and pounded out 14 unanswered points in the next eight minutes to take a controlling nine point (51-42) lead which would be enough to get CU to the finish line.

Cameron will be back in action on Saturday to host West Texas A&M at 4 p.m. in what will be CU's second to last home contest.
