CANYON – The Cameron softball team dropped their first game of the West Texas Woodward Invitational Friday afternoon, falling to Metropolitan State University of Denver 5-0. The Aggies tallied just three hits in the seven inning loss.
Kelsey Watson started for the Aggies and gave up runs in the fourth, fifth, and the seventh innings. She struck out seven Roadrunner hitters, but gave up five earned runs and ten hits in her first loss of the season.
Misty Dooley went 1-2 for CU, while both
Breezy McComas and
Paige Daino were both 1-3. The Aggies tallied just five base runners in 24 at bats.
Britney Thomas provided three of Metro's 10 hits, while Kaylynn Harmon added two and two RBI. Their starter, Kenzie Mattey went the distance and recorded four strikeouts in her fourth win of the season.
The loss moves CU to 2-1 on the season, while Metro State improves to 5-2.
Cameron will be back on the field today at 3:30 for a game against Colorado Mesa.
