Aggie comeback bid falls short at Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Cameron rallied back from a 28 point deficit but they could not overcome the Mustangs who won 73-67 on Sunday night.

The finish came a long ways from the start for the Aggies after they went through the first 11 minutes without a bucket made.

Regardless of the result the Aggies were already locked into the number-6 seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament and they will play on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.  However, Cameron will have a rematch with their rival Mustangs in the opening round of the tournament in a three vs. six matchup and first postseason meeting since 2012.

Deondre Ray led the Ags with a game high 19 points and Jamaal Brantley added 18 to the teams scoring effort.  Matthew Don came away with seven points a game high eight rebounds, Cameron Lee knocked down three triples for nine points, and Tank Mayberry came up with eight.

Cameron won the rebounding battle with 44, which were 10 more than the Mustangs.  In shooting, Midwestern State took the edge 43 percent to 41 percent from the Aggies.
The Aggies committed 22 turnovers with MSU converting 29 points; Cameron had 23 points off of 15 Mustang miscues.

Cameron would go down by 22 points before Brantley made first bucket of the game at the 8:41 marker in the first half.   Three minutes later, the Aggies got within 16 but Mustangs closed the half out with a 47-19 advantage in what looked to be a one sided battle.

The second half proved to be a different story for the Aggies as they would shoot 48.6 percent from the field and stack up 48 points while holding the Mustangs to 26.   Cameron controlled the final eight minutes and brought a 20 point deficit down to four after a Ray hit a layup with four seconds left.   However, time was not on the Aggies side and a pair of free-throws by MSU with three seconds to go iced the game in favor of the Mustangs.

Desmond Henry who needed four points to join Cameron's 1,000 club, was limited to a pair.

With the loss Cameron will fall to 12-14 overall and end their LSC slate 4-10; Midwestern State will go to 21-7 and 10-4 in league play.
