CU streak to 14 with two wins at Oklahoma Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – Two games could not be anymore polar opposite of each other but the result still came out to a pair of Cameron victories on the road at Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday night.

Cameron won game one 1-0 over the Lady Eagles and rallied from behind to put on an offensive show to take the nightcap 19-9.  With the pair of wins the Aggies will extend their streak to 14 games and will move a program best 21-2 overall; this is also the fastest CU has eclipsed 20 wins in a season.

Kelsey Watson (9-1) didn't need much run support after tossing her fourth shutout in a row against Lady Eagles to take the opener 1-0.  The senior hasn't allowed a run to cross home plate in 29 straight innings and hasn't given up an earned run in her last 34.2 innings.  Watson allowed four hits and struck eight OC batters despite issuing six walks.

Cameron's only run came in the third with Tara Martini knocking in a double to left field to score Misty Dooley in from second.  The Aggies would only have four hits with Martini having two, and they would strand six runners.

In the nightcap, Cameron opened the game in front and scored on a passed ball and Lauren Renneker singled in Breezy McComas to put CU in front 2-0.   After a scoreless second inning, the Aggies got another run off a passed ball to increase their lead to three before the Lady Eagles tacked on five in the bottom half of the inning.

Cameron threatened with the bases loaded in no outs in the fourth but a double play and a strikeout allowed Oklahoma Christian to wiggle out of the jam.

The Lady Eagles added three more runs in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead before the Aggie bats woke up in the final three innings.  Cameron opened the fifth with a Dooley triple and McComas singled her for the first run, Renneker later singled in McComas to CU's second run, and later in the inning Sonora Zukerman tied the game with three run blast to center field.

Cameron continued the attack in the sixth getting the go-ahead run off an error and two more from a Paige Daino double.  In the seventh, the CU gas pedal went to the floorboard in an inning that started with Chelsea DeLong homer, Martini blasted her 10th dinger of the year to score three, DeLong in her second at-bat of the inning singled in two more runs, and Macy McKay tripled in a pair to complete the inning.

In the seventh inning alone, CU had eight runs and seven hits, with 12 players stepping up to the plate.

Katelyn Craker started the game and went 2 2/3 innings allowing five runs, only one of which was earned.  Betsy Woodall recorded five outs and gave up three runs; Zukerman (7-1) tossed the final three innings and allowed one run in the win.

Cameron batters had 17 hits with Dooley having three, she would also tie the LSC record for runs in a game with five.

The Aggies will return to Lone Star Conference play for a four game series starting on Friday at Eastern New Mexico.
