Cameron drops pair at Texas A&M-Kingsville to complete sweep

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Cameron dropped two nine inning contests at Texas A&M-Kingsville as the Javelinas completed the four game sweep of the Aggies on Saturday. With the losses the Aggies have dropped their last nine Lone Star Conference contests and will fall to 8-18 in league play; Cameron will go to 15-23 overall.

In game one, both starters matched each other through the first four and a half with CU starter Javarias Banks being able to get out of two runner jams in the second and third innings to keep the Javelinas off the board. The Aggies loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, but with two outs Codey Upton struck out looking to keep the game scoreless.

Each team would go scoreless through seven and a half innings. In the top of the eighth, TAMUK got a lead-off single from Ryan Fickel, who then came around to score on a fielder's choice by Cline Andrews for the first run of the ball game and the 1-0 lead.

CU went three up-three down in the top of the ninth to fall in game one for their ninth one run loss of the season.

Banks (0-5) threw a solid game for the Aggies, going eight innings and giving up just one run on six hits with four strikeouts.

Cameron was held to just three hits in game one, with Nate Hale having a pair and Tyler Palmer adding the other.

After Jake Winters pitched out of trouble in the bottom of the first inning of game two, Matt Nilmeyer doubled to lead-off the second inning and then came around to score on a grounder to the second baseman off the bat of Brandon Wright to give CU the early 1-0 lead.

The Aggies got another run in the second inning, as Hale reached on an error, stole second, moved to second on a grounder to the shortstop, and then scored on a Jonathan Reyes single to centerfield.

Texas A&M-Kingsville came out in their half of the third and used back to back hits to cut the CU lead to 2-1 through three. TAMUK then tied the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly and then took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on an RBI double.

After two scoreless frames, the Javelinas got four insurance runs in the eighth inning with two runs off of a double and a sacrifice bunt off of CU reliever Logan Fanning.  In the top of the ninth, Cameron managed to get two on base with an out but they would hit into a fielder's choice and strike out to get the game.

Fanning (1-3) was charged with loss after going 3 1/3 innings with five earned runs; Jake Winters started the game with four innings tossed with two runs given up.

Cameron was limited to five hits, with TAMUK knocking in 11 off CU pitching.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will go to 24-15 overall and 18-8 in league play following the series.

The Aggies will come back to Lawton to host Southeastern Oklahoma for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
