Game Recap: Softball |

Eight homers power the Aggies to a double-header sweep of OPSU

LAWTON – The Aggie softball team powered out eight homers in their double-header sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State Tuesday, winning 12-3 and 10-3. Lauren Renneker, Paige Daino, and Jessie Ingrum each had two homerun games as CU moves to 31-12 on the season.

Cameron got off to a quick start in game number one as Renneker hit a three run homer to left field in the bottom of the first inning, driving in Macy McKay and Breezy McComas.

After OPSU struck for two runs on a homer of their own in the top of the third, Renneker kicked off the Aggies nine run third inning with her second homer of the day. Two batters later, Sonora Zukerman helped out her cause by hitting a two run homer to center, giving Cameron a 6-2 lead. In the next at-bat, Chelsea DeLong hit a homer over the leftfield wall to CU back-to-back homers and three in the inning. Back-to-back hits from Carly Allerheiligen and McKay gave CU their eighth run of the ballgame and a bases loaded walk would put them up 9-2. Zukerman then drove in two runs on a bases loaded single and Daino scored on a wild pitch to give CU the 12-2 lead after three.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Aggies would give up just one more run in the fifth and close out game one by run-rule.

Zukerman got her ninth win of the season, going all five innings and giving up just two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts. She also went 3-3 with four RBI and a run scored at the plate.

Cameron had 11 hits in game one as Renneker was 2-2 with four RBI and three runs scored game one.

Game two started out just like game one as Daino drove a ball over the left field fence to give CU the early 3-0 lead.

After a scoreless second inning, the OPSU Aggies struck for their first runs of game two in the top of the third on a two run homer. Cameron bounced right back in the bottom of the inning as Daino hit her second homer of the game and put CU up 5-2. After a pair of singles from Zukerman and DeLong, Ingrum hit her second homer of the year to add to the Aggie lead. A few batters later, Allerheiligen came in to score on a groundout to first by Tara Martini, giving the Aggies a 9-2 lead after three.

Cameron put another run on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Ingrum hit her second homer of the day for a solo shot, making it 10-2. Kelsey Watson pitched scoreless fourth and fifth innings to secure the five inning run-rule.

Katelyn Craker went three innings and got her seventh win of the season, giving up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

CU had 10 hits in game two as Daino went 2-5 with two runs scored and five RBI and Ingrum went 2-2 with two runs and four RBI.

The two losses drop Oklahoma Panhandle to 11-31 on the season.

Cameron will hit the road for their next series as they take on Midwestern State for a four game series in Wichita Falls, Texas, April 17-18.
