Aggie golfers set to compete in LSC Championship

LAWTON – The Cameron golf programs will complete with the rest of the Lone Star Conference for a chance at a league title on April 20-21 at the Frisco Lakes Golf Club in Frisco, Texas.

Similarly to last year's championship, the format for men will be medal match play with stroke play in Monday's first round to determine team seeding, semifinal match play in Monday's second round (1v4 and 2v3), and championship match play in Tuesday's final round (Semifinal winners for championship, Semifinal losers for third place).

The Aggie men will be gunning for their tenth league title and are the defending LSC Champions; presently they are tied with Abilene Christian for the most golf titles.   Cameron will also enter the four team field as the number-1 ranked team in the NCAA South Central Region and with the top-10 teams advancing to Super Regionals the Aggies are a lock to advance.    In their last two tournaments, CU has placed first and has six podium finishes out of nine chances.   The Aggies are averaging a 73.9 averaging score which is ninth best nationally and in subpar strokes per round they are 3.33, second best in the nation.  On GolfStat.com, Cameron is the number-24 program in the nation.

On the women's side, Cameron finished fourth overall with a 651 (331+320) score in two rounds last year.  In 18 rounds this season the Aggies have averaged a 322 per round score with senior Jaqueline Strickland leading the way with a 78.22 score.   The tournament will be the final go-around for head coach Rick Goodwin who will be retiring at the conclusion of the academic year.

Goodwin has been at the helm of CU's women's golf program since is it was started 10 seasons ago but he has been a fixture for the Cameron golf programs for decades.   He was an assistant coach on Cameron's 1983 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship squad and won the 2007 LSC women's title in the program's second year.

The women's golf team landed at number-52 on Golfstat.com on its national relative ranking list.

Tee times for both days will start at 8:00 a.m. with live stats for all rounds being found on CameronAggies.com.
