LAWTON –
Paige Daino blasted three homers on Friday afternoon as Cameron split a doubleheader with number-13 Angelo State. Cameron fell 4-3 to the Rambelles in the opener but run ruled ASU 10-2 in five innings during the night cap.
With 17 homers this season, Daino is now in the Cameron home run race with
Lauren Renneker and
Tara Martini who are all chasing down Shareena Pulse who set the record season record 19 homers in 2009. Martini is closest with 18 and Renneker is at 17 this year.
The split sent Cameron to 36-15 this season and 14-12 in the Lone Star Conference and will also help CU out in their regional ranking with ASU sitting in the second slot.  Additionally, with the win in game two the Aggies have set a new high water mark for the program besting the 2008 CU squad.
The Rams opened the doubleheader with a solo homer and after a scoreless second inning they hit a one out single in the third and followed it up with another homer to centerfield to take a 3-0 advantage.
Cameron picked up a run in the bottom half of the inning off back-to-back doubles from
Macy McKay and
Chelsea DeLong. The rally in the third would end off a fly out and a strike out looking.
Â
Sonora Zukerman added to CU's run total in the fourth after blasting her 11th homer of the season to get them within one of the Rambelles.Â
Â
In the six, ASU loaded the bases and a wild pitch added an insurance run to make it a 4-2 lead. Daino closed the gap once again in the bottom frame by one with her 15th blast of the season.
Â
The Rambelles left one on base in the top of the seventh and Cameron ended the game in order to fall in the opener.
Â
Kelsey Watson (16-5) tossed a complete game but was charged with the loss, she gave up four runs and struck out seven.Â
Â
In the nightcap, Daino rocked her second homer of the afternoon to give CU a lead out of the gates in the second inning.
Â
However, ASU would retake the lead in the third off a two RBI double before Cameron but the hammer down in the home half of the inning. Â
The Aggies opened the inning with a pair of singles and a ASU wild pitch would move them over a bag, DeLong walked to load the bases before Martini tied the game with a single. Renneker later put CU in front with sacrifice fly to left field before Daino crushed her third homer of the day to put the Aggies up 6-2.  Two more singles followed and
Misty Dooley singled in one more run to leave two on for
Jessie Ingrum who hit CU's second run of the inning to put them up 10-2.  Cameron would send up 14 batters up to the plate with nine hits.
Â
From there Zukerman kept the Rambelles scoreless and she would move to 11-6 this season.
Â
Daino had the two homers and four RBI and Ingrum had two hits and three RBI.
Â
With the split Angelo State will go to 33-12-1 overall and 15-10-1 in the LSC.
Â
Both teams will come back and wrap up the series on Saturday at 12 p.m.
