Five homers blast CU to LSC semifinals

CANYON, Texas – Macy McKay hit her first career homer and capped off 13-4 win over number-22 Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference semifinals on Friday afternoon.  The Aggies blasted five homers with Tara Martini breaking CU's single season home run record with two to send her season total to 21.  

Both Paige Daino and Lauren Renneker went yard for their 19th homers of the season in the one sided contest.

The Aggies scored five runs in the third and sixth inning and out-hit Angelo State 17 to 6.

Kelsey Watson gave up four earned runs and struck out seven to go to 18-6 this year.

After coughing up a run in the opening frame, the Aggies got a two out homer from Martini that flew over the left field fence to tie the game a one each.   The homer from Martini was the program high with 20. 

Despite the CU homer, the Rambelles tied the game with a leadoff shot to left field in the second inning to retake the advantage.

Cameron bats did more damage in the third with five runs, Renneker smashed a three run homer with one out, and Daino went deep in the next at-bat to put CU up three.  Misty Dooley later in the inning hit a RBI single for to score Carly Allerheiligen who reached on a triple.  The Aggies batted through the order with six hits to lead 6-2 through three innings.

The CU bats continued to attack in the fourth with Martini hitting her second homer of the game to right field to put the Ags up seven.  Later in the inning and with runners on the corners an ASU error put Cameron up 8-2.

Angelo State hit a two run homer in the top of the sixth but a Sonora Zukerman RBI double and an Allerheiligen single to first put CU back up six in the bottom half of the inning.  Breezy McComas put the Aggies up seven with a sac fly to score Zukerman in from third.  Following a fly out center, McKay parked a full count pitch over the fence to end the game 13-4.

Prior to the season CU had beaten Angelo State twice nearly a decade, they have won four straight against the Rambelles.    ASU's Brandy Marlett who was named LSC Pitcher of the Year went 5 2/3 innings and gave up 12 earned runs and in her last start against the Aggies she gave up 10 in under three innings in Lawton last Friday.

The Aggies go to 39-15 overall will advance to the LSC Tournament semifinals to face number-3 West Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
