DURANT – Cameron's hot start continued as they moved past William Jewell in four sets (25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20) to move to 6-0 this season on Friday afternoon. With the two wins the Aggies are now the final undefeated team in the Lone Star Conference.
On short rest after beating Southern Nazarene earlier in the day, the Aggies were efficient on the floor early after knocking down 31 kills versus nine errors against the Cardinals.
The lone senior on CU's squad,
Kat Evans guided the way with a match high 19 kills while hitting .277; she was a dig short of a double-double with nine. Freshman
Kayla Allen had her first career double-digit kill day with 11, she was extremely effective on the floor with a team high .429 hitting percentage; on 21 attempts Allen had only two errors.
Tori Luckenbill had her second double of the day with 44 assists and 18 digs.
Cristina Viera led both teams with 26 digs.
In the first set, the Aggies established an early 3-0 lead before the Cardinals knotted the score at four. The score tied three more times until CU obtained four unanswered points following an ace and kill from Dixon and two more kills by Evans allowing CU the lead for the remaining set.
William Jewell began set two with a lead until the Aggies once again rattled off five uncontested points to take the lead 7-6. The Cardinals next point tied the board at seven, but the Aggies would go on to take the set 17-25. The Black and Gold obtained 14 kills with only three errors and hit a .407 attacking percentage.
Back and forth action occurred during set three until William Jewell took away the Aggies' 10-8 lead by delivering eight consecutive points to bring the score to 15-10. The Cardinals carried the lead to a 25-23 victory over CU. However, the Aggies came back to win set four at 25-20 and the match 3-1.
William Jewell (1-4) was led by Raechel Meisinger paced the Cardinals with 15 kills and Grace Miller added 11 as the team would hit .147 on the floor.
Cameron will travel up to Ada to play in two matches starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
