Cameron rallies twice to beat Southern Arkansas in five sets

ADA – The young Aggies didn't show and signs of quitting after falling behind twice to Southern Arkansas and rallied to win in a five set (20-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12) thriller on early Saturday afternoon.  With the win against the Lady Muleriders, Cameron will climb to 7-0, and remains the only undefeated team in the Lone Star Conference.

The Aggies have come a long ways in a short time considering that they have already matched their season win total from just two years ago.

Cameron had balanced scoring from three individuals with Kat Evans once again leading CU with 16 kills, she also came up with her fifth double-double of the year with 14 digs.  Kayla Allen had a team high .321 hitting percentage off of 15 kills and six errors, and Kendra Adams was big with a season high 13 kills.  Tori Luckenbill came up with her third double-double match in a row with 42 assists and 15 digs, and Ciandra Seabourn had a team high 17 digs.

Statistically, the match was nearly even for both teams with the Aggies having a slight .222 hitting advantage compared to SAU who had a .213 on their side of the court.  CU led by one in digs with 86 and had two more blocks with seven total.  Kills and errors were both matched with Southern Arkansas taking seven more swings than the Aggies.

In the match, Cameron led early in set one but four unanswered points from SAU to make it 19-16 and proved to be the difference.   Set two was largely dominated by the Aggies with the team hitting .364 only recording one error to even the match at a set apiece.

Cameron led late in set three but after holding a 21-20 advantage, Southern Arkansas pitched a shutout and scored five straight to hold the 2-1 match lead.   The fourth set proved to be a turning point for CU and after trailing 19-17 they scored five straight which was just enough to push the match to a decisive set five.

Following a service ace by SAU to open the set, the Aggies took control and would build up a 10-5 lead before the Lady Muleriders would call timeout.  The closest they would get to the Aggies was two points after a service ace to put to the score at 14-12.  However, Kendra Adams closed the book on the comeback with a match winning kill to keep CU's perfect record intact.

Southern Arkansas (4-4) was led by Serena LeDuff who had 18 kills and Shelby Lauterbach with 16.

The Aggies will close out their weekend with Fort Hays State at 5 p.m. this evening in Ada.
