Youth prevails as Aggies stun Arkansas Tech

DENTON, Texas – A young Cameron Aggies squad downed a seasoned Arkansas Tech team in straight sets on Friday afternoon to move to 2-0 in the opening day of the season.

Cameron who is carrying 13 freshmen on its roster, bested a Golden Sun program that reached the NCAA Tournament last fall and was picked to win the Great American Conference.

As a team, CU had 42 kills and 70 digs, while having a .192 hitting percentage.   Cameron was also aided with eight service aces and 11 block assists.

Cameron rallied from behind early in the match and came back from a 15-10 Arkansas Tech lead to go on an 11-2 run to overtake the Golden Suns.  However an ATU timeout, they would rally back with a small 4-1 run to knot up the set at 22 each.   Both teams traded points but it would ATU getting to set point first a 25-24 but an Allen kill and two Golden Sun errors allowed CU to win 27-25.

With some momentum off the opening set the Aggies used it to their advantage.  After ATU took the first point, Cameron rolled through and knocked down 15 kills, and had only two errors to take the two set advantage.

Despite three ties, Cameron never trailed in the final set winning 25-22 and completing a sweep and stunning a squad that went 29-6 one year ago.

The Golden Suns were led by Hunter Eshnuar with 11 kills and they hit .176 on the court.
