Strong offense leads CU to a dominating sweep of Arkansas-Monticello

DENTON, Texas – After going 2-0 on Friday to open up the season, the Cameron Aggies followed that up with a dominating 3-0 sweep over Arkansas-Monticello Saturday morning.

The young CU team overpowered UAM in all three sets, winning sets one and two 25-16 and set three 25-14. Cameron had an attack percentage of .264 and only committed 11 errors in the entire match. CU also held UAM to a .008 hitting clip, while tallying four team blocks.

Cameron's lone senior, Kat Evans, led the team with 12 kills and added 13 digs for her second double-double in the past two days. Jenna Gillean contributed 10 kills to the winning effort, while Jordan Williams added nine kills and nine digs. Tori Luckenbill led CU with 32 assists and added nine digs, while Ciandra Seabourn had 11 digs.

The Aggies controlled set one from the get go has the held the lead the entire first set as they had 13 kills and only five errors and added two service errors. Evans finished the set off with her fifth kill of the set to put CU up 1-0.

UAM took the lead to start set two, but the Ags responded and another kill by Evans gave them their first lead of the set. From there, CU controlled the frame and used multiple runs to jump out to a huge lead and take the set to go up 2-0. Cameron hit .282 with 15 kills and added two blocks in the set.

Like set one, Cameron had control of set three from the start, using 11 kills and just two errors and adding two more blocks and two more aces to secure the win.

UAM's offense struggled as they hit just .008 as Kya Standford and Carolina Gasparini led their team with six kills each.

The Aggies will be back on the court at 2:30 on Saturday as they face Harding for their final game of their opening weekend.
