LAWTON – Cameron couldn't recover from a slow start to drop their second game in a row on Wednesday evening 63-56 to Texas A&M-Commerce. The Aggies trailed for the majority of the contest and pulled within a possession with runs in the final two quarters but never pulled ahead of the Lions.
Dayla Threatt led the Aggies with 16 points and
DJ Vallier added 12. As a team Cameron shot 36.2% (21-58) but struggled at the arc by going 6-for-21 against the Lions.
Savanna James played seven minutes but led the Aggies with six boards; CU would have 37 overall but trailed A&M-Commerce by three.Â
Final Results (PDF)Cameron committed ten turnovers in the first quarter, but they would commit only eight the rest of the night.  The Lions equaled CU's turnover total, but it would be the Aggies picking up 22 points, seven more than A&M-Commerce. Â
Brittany Hill led the Ags with four steals and added nine points.
The Aggies got off to a rough start and shot 33% (4-12) from the field and by the end of the first quarter the Lions would have an 18-10 advantage. Â Â Cameron would only sink a layup from
Savanna James in the final five minutes of the quarter while A&M-Commerce closed on a 13-2 run. Turnovers plagued the Aggies in the quarter with ten miscues, but the Lions scored only five points off those.Â
In the second quarter, Cameron still shot 4-for-12 from the field, but the Lions would go 5-for-18 on their side of the court, and they would stretch out their lead by one point (29-22) at the halftime buzzer.Â
Charron Montgomery would lead CU with seven points at the halftime horn.
Out of the locker room Threatt came out on fire with eight points in the first three minutes and pulled the Aggies back into the game to trail 33-32 at the 7:18 marker.  Despite the hot shooting from Threatt, Cameron couldn't get out in front of the Lions, but four unanswered points kept the Aggies back 43-41 by the end of the third period.
Cameron picked up an early bucket from
DJ Vallier to open the fourth quarter, but they would go scoreless for five minutes while A&M-Commerce opened up a 52-43 advantage. Â Â A three-pointer from
Brandi Leal with 5:21 left reopened the door for CU scoring, and they would get within three (54-51) following a Vallier layup at the 4:02 mark.  However, this would the closest the Ags would get the rest of the way, and they would drop back-to-back home contests since Feb. 5-6, 2014.
Artaejah Gay led the Lions with 17 points and had 11 rebounds.
With the win, Texas A&M-Commerce will move to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in league play; Cameron will fall to 8-6 and 2-3 in the LSC.
