Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lee's 19 point second half sparks Aggie win over A&M-Commerce

LAWTON – Cameron used a 47 point second half and superior defense to shut down a Texas A&M-Commerce nine game winning streak to beat the Lions 66-57 on Wednesday night.  The Aggies trailed as many as 18 points to the Lions with poor shooting in the first half and now have six of their last eight contests.

Prior to their contest with the Aggies, Texas A&M-Commerce have averaged over 90 points a game.

"Our defense was outstanding throughout the night," said head coach Nate Gamet.  "To stay as locked in as we did and only scoring 19 points in the first half is pretty impressive.  They didn't go away from it; they didn't go and take bad shots which would have led to more points for them (A&M-Commerce). They stuck to it and did a good job."

Cameron Lee proved to be clutch for the Aggies after going scoreless in the first half, the senior had a team high 19 points.  Jamaal Brantley was a board short of the double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.  Deondre Ray also hit double-figures for the Ags with 14 points.

"They (Brantley, Lee, and Ray) did what seniors our supposed to do, they made plays when we needed to…but a lot of guys tonight had a role to make things happen for us," added Gamet.

The Aggies trailed in the rebounding battle 42-to-39 with steals both tied and eight each.  JV Long had a team high three steals and came up with six points.

Cameron got off to a disastrous first half off of 7-for-39 shooting and at the arc it took the team's tenth try to sink one.  At the halftime horn, the Ags would leave for the locker room trailing A&M-Commerce 32-19.

The second half was all Aggies and they would shoot a blazing 73.9% (17-23) from the field and they chipped away at the A&M-Commerce lead.  A Lee layup with three minutes to go put CU up 56-55 for the first time and they would close the game on a 16-2 run to roll past the Lions.   Cameron would hold A&M-Commerce to only 25 points in the second half.

The Lions were led by Everrett Pleasant and Bryant Crowder who both had 12 points.

With the win Cameron will go to 10-7 and 2-1 in league play, while A&M-Commerce will fall to 12-3 and 2-1 in the LSC.

Cameron will be off until this next Wednesday, Jan. 20 to face Angelo State in Lawton at 7:30 p.m.
