Aggies rout Eastern New Mexico, 82-73

PORTALES, New Mexico – The Cameron women overcame a 14 point deficit in the first half to rout Eastern New Mexico 82-73 on Thursday afternoon. The Aggies are now 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play and 8-4 overall.

Dayla Threatt led the Aggie offense with 19 points, eight rebounds and went 10-for-11 at the line. Brandi Leal (12 pts), Brittany Hill (11 pts), and Charron Montgomery (10 pts) were also in double figures for the Ags. Additionally, Markita Zeigler grabbed six rebounds.

Eastern New Mexico opened play with a 10-4 run as the Aggies experienced cold shooting, going 3-for-17 in the first quarter with half of their points coming from the line. However, CU would narrow a 27-13 Greyhound lead in the second thanks to five three-pointers, bridging the gap to four points, but the Greyhounds would drain one of their own with five seconds remaining to carry a 45-37 advantage at the break.

Cameron caught up with Eastern in the second half, with Brandi Gomez draining a three-point shot to put her team up 54-53 at the 4:31 marker in the third quarter. Both sides would trade the lead, but CU would come out on top as Threatt would go 4-for-4 at the line in the last minute to give the Aggies a 60-58 edge heading into the final period.

The lead traded four times early in the fourth with Cameron taking advantage of a four minute Greyhound scoring drought to go on an 11-0 run to lead 73-65 by the 4:07 marker. Eastern would get within five points in the final 30 seconds, but the Aggies pulled away with their 14-2 run as the clock dwindled for an 82-73 conference victory.

Cameron shot 25-for-60 from the field and went 11-for-21 at the arc, Eastern New Mexico shot 28-for-80 and 11-for-27 from downtown. The Greyhounds struggled at the line, going 6-for-15, while the Aggies shot 21-26 at the charity stripe for 80%.

ENMU won the rebounding battle (49-42) and despite doubling CU's offensive rebounds, the Greyhounds only cashed in 11 second chance points.

Sarah Stinnett led the Greyhounds with 18 points on the game and Johna McClelland had a game high 13 rebounds.

The Aggies will return to their home court for a Sunday afternoon contest with West Texas A&M.
