Washington registers career high five blocks in CU loss

BETHANY, Okla. – Sabra Washington registered a career high five blocks in the Aggies' 3-1 (22-25, 28-26, 25-23, 25-21) loss to non-conference opponent Southern Nazarene on Tuesday evening.

The freshman from Brock, Texas assisted with each of the Aggies five total team blocks with Paige Dixon assisting on three.

On offense, Jenna Gillean recorded a team high 16 kills and matched with 16 digs for her fifth double-double on the year. Also with double figures in kills was Ania Keene at 11.

The Aggies jumped to 6-2 lead to begin the match, but a seven point SNU chain brought the Crimson Storm a 9-6 edge. Cameron remained back, tying SNU five times before nabbing the lead back at 20-19 and again at 22-21.

Cameron would get the 25-22 first set victory after taking advantage of 11 SNU attack errors keeping the Crimson Storm to just .060 while the Aggies' Gillean put down six kills on offense.

The second set saw an even more tightly contested battle with 15 ties that took the game to extra points. Keene knocked down a kill to knot the set for a final time at 26-26, but a SNU kill and Aggie ball handling error brought the Crimson Storm the 28-26 win aided by 22 kills.

For the third set in a row, Cameron took the first lead; however, SNU recorded back-to-back kills for the advantage. The Crimson Storm withstood six Aggie tie scores to not lose their lead, taking set three 25-23.

With two early lead changes, SNU advanced into the fourth set holding a steady pace until the Aggies caught up at 20-20. But CU would lose momentum as SNU posted a 5-1 run spurred by four kills and a block to win the set 25-21.

The loss brings Cameron to 2-16 and Southern Nazarene advances to 9-8.

Cameron resumes Lone Star Conference action on Friday against Texas A&M-Kingsville in the Aggie Gym.
