LAWTON– Cameron volleyball returned to conference action on Friday evening but was swept in straight sets by Texas A&M-Kingsville (25-17, 25-11, 25-17) in the Aggie Gym.
The Aggies were overpowered by the Javelinas' defense who stuffed CU at the net with 13 team blocks led by Lexi Wick who contributed eight of her own.
The Javelinas also doubled the Aggies in kills with 42 in the sweep.
Leading Cameron on the match was
Jenna Gillean with nine kills,
Haleigh McClain-Ward with 16 assists and
Kylee Quillin with 15 digs.
Joseline Caraveo assisted in three of CU's blocks.
In set one, the Javelinas broke for their largest lead of seven, but the Aggies would close in to within two points at 17-15. From there, CU would only manage two points off TAMUK errors in the 25-17 opening set loss.
Ania Keene began the second game with a service ace, but after two ties, TAMUK took off on a 15-1 run. The Javelinas used their momentum to hold Cameron to just two kills on the set for the 25-11 advantage.
Cameron held a steady three point lead to start set three; however, TAMUK would catch up for the 8-6 lead, which the Aggies tied once more. The Javelinas kept their pace, steadily inching away until breaking for a six point run on the 22-13 advantage.
The Aggies traded points with the Javelinas late in the set, but TAMUK remained on top in the 25-17 victory.
Cameron drops to 2-17 and 0-10 in the LSC, while the Javelinas are now 15-5 and 6-3 in the league.
Next, the Aggies will host Texas Woman's on Tuesday for their annual "Dig Pink Night."
