CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Aggie men's basketball team fell in an exhibition game on Saturday night to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, 88-81.
The first half started with CU jumping out to a 10-0 lead, and extending that lead to 16 by the 11:30Â mark. USAO slowly chipped away at the lead and tied the game with a little over two minutes left in the first frame. After going back and forth, the Drovers hit a last second three to take a three point lead heading into halftime. The score was 47-44 through one half.
After that dagger before the half, it seemed like USAO stole the momentum and slowly built up their lead and maintained that for the rest of the game.
Cameron had six players in double figures, with sophomore
Tyus Momoh leading the way with 16 points, going 2-4 from 3-point range and 6-6 from the free throw line.
JV Long,
Delvonte Pierre, and
Tyler Williams each had 11 points while
Bryan Mitchell and
Christian Barrett had 10 points each. Long led CU with five assists, while Barrett was the leading rebounder with seven.
As a team, the Aggies shot 43.8 percent from the field, going just 29 percent from three and hitting on 20 of their 28 field goals. The Drovers shot 47 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three, and hit 28-37 from the charity stripe. Each team had 37 rebounds, while CU had 14 turnovers and USAO had 15.
The Drovers were led by Taran Buie, who had 36 points, while Brendan Chapman added 18 and Greg Smith scored 14.
Cameron will have almost two weeks off before they officially start their season with the Lone Star/Heartland Challenge on Nov. 11-12 in Commerce, Texas. The Aggies will take on Newman on the Nov. 11 and then Oklahoma Christian on Nov. 12. Â
