CU uses team effort to take down OCU 73-61

COMMERCE, Texas – The Cameron men's basketball team had five players score in double figures in their win over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, 73-61. CU leaves the LSC/Heartland Challenge with a 2-0 record.  

The Aggies opened the game with a 4-0 run, but OCU came back and the two teams traded points throughout the rest of the first frame. CU shot just 34 percent from the field, 17 percent from three point range and 25 percent from the free throw line, but held a 26-25 lead going into the half. Delvonte Pierre led CU with seven points through the first 20 minutes of play.

CU came out firing in the second half and built up a 10 point lead by the 17 minute mark. Once again the Eagles cut down the CU lead, and take a one point lead with 12:30 left in the game. From there, the Aggies took over and took back the lead, extending it to 15 with just over two and a half minutes left. OCU was out of comebacks, as Cameron closed out the game, winning 73-61.

Tyler Williams had 11 points in the second half to give him a game high 15 points, hitting 3-5 from three point range, while adding four steals. Pierre finished with 14 points, while JV Long chipped in 13 points, Tyus Momoh had 12, and Stacey Lambert tallied 10 points and eight rebounds.

Cameron shot 42 percent from the field and 40 percent from three point range, but was just 12-21 from the charity stripe. They turned the ball over just 13 times and forced 16 OCU turnover, six coming from steals. The Aggies won the rebounding battle 41-25 with 15 of those coming on the offensive end.

Oklahoma Christian was led by seven footer John Moon who had a 14 point 10 rebound double-double. As a team, the Eagles shot  37 percent from the field and just 17 percent from the three point line, while converting on 17-22 of their free throws.

The Aggies will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 15, when they host Dallas Christian for their 2016-17 home opener in the newly renovated Aggie Gym.
