Aggie men fall to Our Lady of the Lake in overtime

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Aggie men's basketball suffered their first loss of the season as they fell 84-78 to Our Lady of the Lake in overtime on Saturday. CU is now 4-1 on the season, after going 1-1 at the Patterson Auto Center Classic this weekend.

In the first half, Cameron took the lead earlier and held it throughout, despite surges by the Saints, who cut the lead to one with seven minutes left in the half. However, CU responded and extended their lead to nine and took a 43-34 lead into the half. The Aggies shot 49 percent from the field, 30 percent from the
three point line, and went 6-9 from the free throw line through the first 20 minutes. Tyus Momoh led the way at the half with 12 points.

The Aggies started out the second half with a three by Tyler Williams that extended their lead to nine, but that was as large as the CU lead would get as OLLU came back and tied the game at 48 at the 13:13 mark, thanks to a 14-2 run. The two teams would go back-and-forth down the stretch, before CU built up five point lead with 3:45 left in the second half, the Saints came back again and five straight free throws in the last 1:30 tied the game up at 69 points apiece and send it to overtime.

In overtime, Our Lady of the Lake struck first with a three point shot, but Cameron responded to tie it back up at 72. The Saints retook the lead and extended it to four with just over two minutes left.  Williams then hit another three to cut the lead back to one, but then OLLU went on a 7-2 run to close out the game at 84-78.

Momoh finished with a team high 21 points, his second 20 point game of the season, while Williams had a career high 19 points and a team high five assists. Also in double figures for the Ags was Trey Hall who had 11 points and led CU with nine rebounds and three steals.

The Aggies shot 38 percent from the field, 27 percent from three point range, and 64 percent from the free throw line. They grabbed 42 rebounds, had 20 assists, seven steals, and three blocks, while turning the ball over 15 times. CU got 22 points from their bench and scored 30 of their points from in the paint.

Our Lady of the Lake, who is now 2-1, shot 44 percent from the field, 41 percent from deep, and went 20-31 from the charity stripe. They were led by Mike Hagan-Daniel, who scored 23 points, while Darion Brown had 18.

Cameron will be back at home for their next game as they host Rogers State on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
