ADA, Okla. – The Cameron men's basketball team lost 86-69 to East Central Oklahoma on Monday in their final non-conference game of the season. CU is now 9-4 overall this season and 1-3 in true road games.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams holding the lead at some point through the first 20 minutes. Each team was on fire from the field, as CU shot 56 percent and ECU shot 46.7 percent, while both shot 41.7 percent from the perimeter. The difference in the first half was that the Tigers went to the line and made four more free throws than the Aggies, as East Central held a 42-38 lead going into halftime.
Delvonte Pierre led CU into the half with nine points, while ECU's Braxton Reeves had 22 at the halfway mark.
The Aggies came out firing in the second half, as an 18-4 run powered them to a 56-46 lead with just less than 15 minutes to go in the game. However, three straight three pointers from Reeves in the next two minutes would cut the CU lead to just one. By the time the nine minute mark passed, ECU was back on top by eight, thanks to a pair of old fashioned three point plays from Brett Cannon. From there, the Tigers used a 14-3 run to extend their lead to 82-63 with four minutes left. CU won the last four minutes 6-4, but lost the game 86-69.
Cameron shot 44 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from the free throw line, but went just 7-22 from the perimeter. They got 23 points from the bench, but turned the ball over 12 times, which led to 20 ECU points.
Tyler Williams led CU with 16 points, while Pierre chipped in 13 and
Stacey Lambert had 11.
JV Long was one point and one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing nine boards to go along with five assists.
East Central, who is now 6-4, shot 49 percent from the field, 42.3 percent from three point range, and 75 percent from the charity stripe. Just a few days after scoring 40 against Texas A&M-Commerce, Reeves went for 45 against CU, going 11-19 from three point range. Ishmael Donzo and Cannon each finished with 16 points.
Cameron will have a short break before the come back to the Aggie Gym when they host ranked Angelo State on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. for a New Year's Eve Showdown.
