Aggie men suffer first conference loss to Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Poor shooting hurt the Aggie men as the suffered their first Lone Star Conference loss, falling 73-60 to Tarleton State on Saturday evening. CU is now 7-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Cameron started out the game on a 14-3 run, led by six points by Delvonte Pierre. Tarleton slowly made their way back and took their first lead of the game on three pointer from Ridell Camidge, making it 27-25 with 2:31 left in the first half. Another bucket by the Texans at the 1:31 mark would give them a four point lead, that they would hold going into the break. The Aggies shot just 30 percent from the field, 33 percent from three point range, and hit three of their six free throws. Tyus Momoh led CU with eight points through the first 20 minutes, while Camidge had 15 points on 5-8 shooting from deep for TSU.

The closest CU would get in the second half is when Tyler Williams made a layup to cut the Texan lead to four, but from there Tarleton State controlled the rest of the game, stretching their lead to 20 with just over 10:30 left in the game. TSU maintained their lead and closed out the game 73-60.

As a team, the Aggies struggled shooting all game going 32 percent from the field, 28 percent from three point range, and 55.6 percent from the charity stripe. They lost the rebounding battle 41-33 and turned the ball over 14 times while recording 10 assists. On defense, CU forced 19 turnovers, 10 of which came from steals.

Momoh finished with a team high 13 points and had three steals, while Williams and Bryan Mitchell had 10 points each. JV Long filled the stat line, scoring six points, grabbing four rebounds, collecting four assists, and getting two steals.
