LAWTON – The Cameron baseball team handed William Jewell its first loss in an 8-5 victory at McCord Field on Friday. The Aggies remain undefeated at 8-0 while the Cardinals move to 0-1.
Â
Cameron struck first with a run in the first inning and quickly added three more in the bottom of the second as
Cody Bower would hit a two RBI double, and Tyler McKenzie singled to left field bringing him in for the 4-0 Aggie advantage.
Â
The Aggies would extend their lead to five, but the Cardinals were on their toes in the bottom of the seventh when an Aggie error in center field allowed a Cardinal single to advance to third, bringing in two runs. A balk then allowed the run to come home with the Cards still trailing 5-3.
Â
William Jewell wasn't done and would tie the Aggies at 5-5 in the eighth inning; however, Cameron would score three on a pair of singles up the middle to make it 8-5.
Â
A Cardinal batter would double up the left field line, but
Logan Fanning (1-0) struck out the next three for his first win on the mound this season. CU's starter
Bryan Belote had ten strikeouts in 6.1 innings for the Ags.
Â
Jonathan Reyes and
Tyler McKinzie both went 2-for-4 on the game with two RBI each.
Â
The Aggies will return to the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Cardinals beginning at 12 p.m. at McCord Field.
